Hey Group,

I am new to the group. I wanted to see if what you all thought of the following codes I have P0746 & P0776. I have a V6 AWD. The trans is acting up. It says the following under pending codes.

P0746 - Pressure Control Solenoid A - Performance/Stuck off
P0776 - Pressure Control Solenoid B - Performance/Stuck off

Fluid doesn't smell burnt. The trans does jerk when shifting from park or neutral to drive or revers. I was going to drop the pan and clean the solenoids. Am I just wasting my time or have some of you had luck with this?

Thanks
Joe

It is rare to see transmission problems unless you have neglected fluid changes or prolonged service intervals way beyond fluid life. What mileage do you have and how often was the last transmission fluid was changed?

Hey thanks for your comment. I am glad to hear that about the transmissions. I purchased it with shifting problems. I have wanted a V6 AWD Sport since they came out. Buying one that needed work is the best way for me to get one inexpensively. It has 162k on it. I'm not opposed to pulling the transmission and swapping it out. However, before I do that I wanted to drain the fluid, drop the pan and pull and clean all the solenoids and then reinstall with new fluid. Just wondering if people have tried this or not before. I did this on my Father-in-laws RX300 years ago and he is still driving it. I think I put new/used solenoids in it.

Thanks
Joe

As DL175 says we haven't seen these codes before. My guess is with your knowledge and experience you'll have it running perfect soon. If they are inexpensive I'd change the solenoids.

Joe, good luck and hopefully it is as simple as replacing a solenoid. You should of course replace the transmission filter when you do the job. Get blue locktite and be very careful removing and installing the pan bolts using only hand tools.(no power tools). I used a nut driver and lots of penetrating oil to loosen the pan bolts because the rust plus the blue locktite can make it harder to remove increasing the chance a bolt snapping. Remove the old locktite first before applying new one. You need to remove the 17 mm bolt holding the bracket support. Recheck the pan bolts the next day as the pan bolts will be looser after the locktite dries.

P0713 is a tranny code as you say, caused by:

  • Faulty Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor
  • Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor harness is open or shorted
  • Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
Let me look at the others

P2195

Faulty Oxygen Air/Fuel Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1
Oxygen Air/Fuel Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted
Oxygen Air/Fuel Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection
Faulty EFI Relay
Faulty Injector
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

With the host of codes you have, I would would be looking at the harness and connectors associated with these circuits.

Do you have a lot of either rust/corrosion in your area, or do you have invasive critters? I would look for damage to harness r connectors before firing the parts canon

Let us know how you get on

Additional codes P0713, P2238, P2195 were found.
I know P0713 is tranny related just like the P046. Previous it was P0776.

Yes exactly.
We're going to try with another valve body and see.
ECM repaired and reprogrammed already, Oxygen sensors changed few weeks ago.
Comprehensive electrical connections checked.

Could it be that the ECM repair and reprogramming couldn't go well?

Wow, that is some work that has been carried out.

Just as a heads up, were the O2's genuine Denso ones? (Toyota OEM?). If not, copy parts will throw havoc with our Ravs. I would check this out before rechecking the ECM

Invasive critters yes because of this same transmission issues, car is mostly parked. I have seen droppings in the car, suggestive of mice infestations but I haven't seen any mouse inside.

Corrosion not really, not much rust either.

The electrician told me he had fixed the problem causing the P0746 yesterday after checking the wiring, it was after that he got the P0713 which initially was not there.

Maybe he needs to do a code clear then. It is good he sorted the harness issues yesterday - maybe the reset will clear a few things and then give further direction. I would still look at harness/wiring issues to start with.

Keep us up to date on how things work
