That is what I figured -unless the vehicle is prewired with higher power to the one outlet already.USB-C cables just like any other cable only provides the amount of power the source supplies. There are adaptors that adapt USB-A to USB-C So you can use USB-C cables with a USB-A outlet.
USB-c can charge at a higher rate (depending on source) and also has a higher data transfer rate than USB-a.Is there an advantage to using USB-C or is it more the situation of "I have mostly USB-C devices". No additional power or anything like that?
I guess it won't matter if a 2022 XSE can't use the module anyway.
I don't have the car yet and don't even know how many and/or where the USB outlets are located. I have exactly 2 USB-C cables, so not a big deal for me unless the "C" can provide a higher voltage/quicker charge.
The iPhone doesn't use a USB-C plug It uses a Lighting port cable. Rumor has it the next model iPhone 14 will use the USB-C plug. The later model iPads use a USB-C connector to charge them. The Lighting Port cable is usually a USB-A on one end and a Lighting port on the other. You can get them with a USB-C instead of the USB-A in an aftermarket cable.I assume there are also USB-C to USB-A adaptors for rear seat passengers who want to charge IPhones and other devices since my new RAV4 only has the C version outlets.
You might be able to swap out your USB-c ports for one of the ports mentioned earlier in this thread that have both USB-A and USB-c.I assume there are also USB-C to USB-A adaptors for rear seat passengers who want to charge IPhones and other devices since my new RAV4 only has the C version outlets.
My iPhone came with a charging cable with lightning plug on the end that plugs into the phone, and USB-c on the supply end. Since my '21 RAV4 came with only USB-a outlets, this thread gave me the info I needed to have a USB-c available for my iPhone. The iPhone doesn't use a USB-C plug It uses a Lighting port cable. I have one of these for my 12v charge port. I swapped my rear USB ports for the dual port design so I have one of each in the car. I'm not so worried about charging my phone ASAP while in the car, I mainly swapped it because on long road trips I will sometimes forget and extra usb-a charger (it's an ancient design, haven't used one in the house in quite a while) so it gives me something to plug my usb-c charger into, which is what I use for the wall chargers. It just adds flexibility to my charging options in the car. Since I use my 12v charger for a power bank and the other one for a car fridge.Whats he power on these things? Newer phones w/ the bigger battery fast or super fast charging mode anywhere from 20W, 30W, or 45W. Any less phone wont go into fast charging mode. If replacing it just for usb c why not just get cable usb A to usb C other end.
Or go with these smaller flush 30W charger that fits flush in cigarette adapter. It say 60W but supports simultaneous charging of 2 devices, but does NOT support simultaneous super-fast charging.
Yes, I was able to replace the rear outlets, but those are the ones I care about the least. Really wanted to change the USB outlets in the center console. I'm tempted to swap the front and rear plugs so I can put a USB-C outlet in the center console.
Found the connector housing part numbers today.Another solution is to just swap the rear connector with the front connector. Move the USB ports from the center console to the back seats, and put the one from the back seats into the center console
Edit: this would work for kdube because he said the rears are the ones he cares about the least
Since the connectors are the same for the console mounted USB outlets, just replace them with the earlier version with either two USB-a or one USB-a and one USB-c. Used ones go for as little as $10 on Ebay. Now that the car is in my possession I fully understand how silly it is to have all USB-C ports. Ouch.
I guess my first vehicle accessory is either a cable or an adaptor.
Hi, I am following this thread with interest from Australia. We own a 2021 RAV4 Cruiser hybrid whichnI believe is your XLE trim level, with the dreaded Usba outlets and a wireless charging tray. I would lovevto replace the centre console inside plugs with Usbc, and note the part number has been identified inmitgerbposts. Have you been able to resolve the plug change option yet?Just installed the 85532-08050 at the back of the center console. It, too, is plug and play. Even though it does not have the doors over the outlets, it has the added advantage of being back lit so you can easily see it in the dark.
Has anyone found a USB-c to fit the different connector inside the center console? I could not find a part number on the connector so I could build an adapter cable.
Yes, it can be done, but you have to do some connector magic. I don't have time now to look up the details, but may in a day or two. (Sorry, I just got home this PM from surgery).. Thanks for responding. There is no hurry, as we are in the US with our son's family until February, before heading home to Australia.Yes, it can be done, but you have to do some connector magic. I was going to create a new thread on how to install a USB-C inside the center console but it got too complicated and I was afraid of liability issues in case someone was not able to follow my instructions. Thanks for responding. Congrats on the new grandson! Thanks for such a comprehensive response, which will be valuable to many of us. I intend on our return to Australia to follow your approach. In the meantime, I will accumulate the various parts to enable that whilst we are still in the US (on an extended visit with our new grandson). May I enquire where you sourced your parts here in the US?
