Had a crack in my windshield so got it replaced by Safelite. Noticed that the automatic wipers no longer activated when it rains. Is the rain sensor built into the windshield?
There is a different glass for cars with the rain sensor. Can you see the notch in the windshield masking for the rain sensor? There is a picture on another thread that shows that notch. They said they calibrated everything and gave me a certificate which does not have a break down of everything they did. Just establishes that they did and on which date. I reached out to them so we'll see if they make it right.
Not sure what notch you mean and have not been able to find a pic here that shows it. 🤷‍♂️There is a different glass for cars with the rain sensor. Can you see the notch in the windshield masking for the rain sensor? There is a picture on another thread that shows that notch.

Yes. That is the rain sensor. The masking (the black around the sensors) is on the window glass and the notch must be there for the sensors to work. Some replacement windshields don't have the proper masking.
I'm tired of going back. This will be the third time after the replaced the windshield. Ugh.First thing turn the wipers to the auto mode, then take a water bottle and spray mist directly on the sensor location
and if the wipers don't instantly turn on go back to Safelite and have them fix it at no cost.
Did they put in the right windshield? i.e. is there an aperture for the rain sensor to look through in the masking at the top?Having the same issue ('22 XLE) after a new windshield was installed 3 weeks ago. It only started raining here in Calgary yesterday (after a 7-8 week drought) and I immediately noticed that rain sensing was inoperable. Called GlassMaster and the manager told me that after a new windshield is installed the sensing function is sometimes deactivated - and may need to be reactivated. A cursory search reveals not such activation functionality - at least in terms of what can be done w/o high level tools a shop may have. Maybe there is and I am not aware. Anyone know more about this? Anyway, the manager told me that if I can't sort it to come by the shop and they will get to the bottom of it.
I saw that above in this thread. I'll be having a look for certain.Did they put in the right windshield? i.e. is there an aperture for the rain sensor to look through in the masking at the top?
