I did some research and decided my problem was the glass (digitizer) touch screen.
2 youtube videos, 1 to so how to remove the radio/info system (suprisingly simple) and 1 to show how to disassemble the unit, and I was set. Or so I thought.
Apparently there are at least 3 different screens that are used depending on the radio and manufacturer. I guessed wrong the first time and had to send it back. The difference for me was where the ribbon wire is located on the glass. It can be on the side, bottom middle or bottom left. Mine was bottom left, a little harder to find for me. Received the second replacement today, assembled and everything is working perfect. I can now pair my new phone to the car.
This helped with disassembling radio:
This helped removing the radio from the car:
The radio number mentioned in the removal video helped me find the correct replacement glass. If you have XM radio, there is another unit attached at the bottom. It doesnot need to be unplugged from the radio. As far as I could tell, the wire plugs would only fit the correct plugin.

I've never liked my stupid 2015 Rav 4 and with this crappy screen not working I am beyond. I will never get a Toyota ever. I'm so frustrated with not being able to delete or add any phones!!!!
slow down there lizzie ;)! Lizzette - the car is actually pretty good. But sometimes (most of the time?) auto makers farm out their audio. Years ago I had a beloved Maxima - 6 speed manual and it was a rocket - had a "BOSE" system in it. Great speakers and subwoofer, unit in the dash? not bose and a complete piece of garbage.

If your only hate is the subtier audio, just go spend some money on a new system. Replacing the car is going to cost you more.

Note to other people - NEVER buy a car due to the sound system. They aren't the same thing.

The hate is for the malfunctioning screen. I have the same problem. Stuck with devices I no longer have and there is nothing I can do about it.

2014 RAV4 XLE I have a problem where any of the stuff on the bottom inch or so of the screen wont respond to touches. I was trying to pair a new phone and It was being a huge pain. Finally found a video saying to use the magnetic strip on my credit card and that should activate it. Worked like a charm, and I was able to pair my phone in about 30 seconds. It took a tiny bit of finagling with the position where I was pushing the card against the screen, but it worked.

There are several ways to implement a touchscreen, most common nowadays is the "traveling electromagnetic wave", so apparently the additional bit of magnetism allows the card to "grab" the wave a bit further... interesting

Still no luck for me after trying the credit card and pencil eraser trick I saw on another video. The bottom row of buttons absolutely won't respond correctly, and instead will respond to whatever is about an inch above it. Hitting "remove" on my devices list will consistently press the icon of the 2nd or third to last phone!
