mobil 1 is crap sorry guys hope u know a while back there is a law suit about them calming they are fully synthetic,
I have not read about any such lawsuit. It would be bogus and a losing lawsuit anyway since there is no standard definition of "fully synthetic" and Mobil 1 and most others are Group III oils enhanced with varying percentages of PAOs so they are synthetic in most respects. You are way out of line calling Mobil 1 crap--I doubt many here or on BITOG forum would agree with you. Most agree Mobil1 EFP and EP are better than the Toyota OEM TGMO 0w16.

Decent video. It has long been known that the TGMO and Mobil1 0w16 are different in many respects and on the BITOG forum the Mobil1 is considered superior to TGMO. Both oils have different additive packages with different anti-wear and anti-shear properties. It was long thought the TGMO was superior because it had a huge amount of dimer moly compared to the Mobil1. It is now known that the Mobil1 actually uses a much better and more advanced chemical formulation of trimer moly and hence does not require as many PPMs. Also the Mobil 1 base oil stock has PAO added and I have not read that the TGMO is anything other than a plain old Group III.

So should I not go to Toyota for the free oil change and do it myself with Mobil1?

No I did not because I can't find any lawsuits. Do you have a legitimate link?

this guy pretty much sums it up why i stopped using mobil long ago, maybe they have changed now but there is just so many other brands out there i would rather use.

The best explanation I have ever heard why 5,000 miles and what oil provider has proven itself to a professional engine rebuilder.
i agree nothing better then a fresh oil change regardless what brand just do it more frequently. this guy got me curious what oil he used.

Do you realize that this post was long time ago. Long ago.

yes, I've stopped using it for about that long lol why i also said they might have changed but i just never bothered since there is so many other brands now if i have to pay for it i would rather try out different brands. for my rav4 to be honest if it was free i don't mind if my car was given that oil or any synthetic now since i change it more frequently.

don't you also get a free oil & engine filter too.
Free oil filter, yes. Engine air filter, no. Reason: Toyota provides free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles. If my memory serves me right, the engine air filter is not "scheduled" until 30,000 miles.

Thanks for posting that interesting older North American Motoring thread--it made some good points about Group III and PAO oils. However in that thread those guys were looking for oils they could use in Minis and only change at yearly intervals and high miles back in 2006. Since nowadays in our 5th gen RAVs knowledgeable people are using 5K mile oil change intervals we really don't need to get exotic and expensive group IV and V oils. TGMO or Mobil 1 AFE (advanced fuel economy) or EP (Extended Performance) are plenty good enough.

Are those the present OEM ICE engine air filters in your photo? My 2021 gas model OEM filter is RED color! I wonder if there has been a filter medium change and whether the filtration rate is now different.

i changed it last week i got the filter from a local toyota dealer i tried to order it online it says disconnected but when i got to the front service desk they told me yah thats what it says but for some reason they have it in stock lol and its $37-38 even with the discount it come out to be $27. i forgot to count the fins on the old filter but the new one i counted 110 fins might have missed 1-2.

Oil doesn't cost that much so if you use superior brand that doesn't hurt your expensive car don't you think it would be much better? But if you are willing to accept free oil even though it is not as good then you use double standard and that oil is just as good as the the other brand. And how and why exactly you discover that other brands any better? Did you run each oil for 10K miles recommended by the manufacturer and then took the sample to the lab to check if it lost viscosity?
