Hi there,

I am currently trying to replace my ECM in a 2006 Rav4 2WD.

All the information i have found online has been for the older generations and the ECM is not right out in the open.

I have dropped the glove box, but can not see this thing anywhere.

Could someone please help me find it?!

Thanks,
Mark

see North East of your battery under the hood.
The ECM has big connectors and many many wires.

Thanks, i have it out now.

One more question,

I am browsing online trying to find a replacement, but they all have different numbers.
Will an ECM with similar numbers work?

The part number reads: 89661-42c20
most matches are 89661-xxxx

Any insight?

Why do you want to replace it?

We have had the rpms spiking with shifting problems, recently the lights have been going haywire, and its throwing the code for ECU/ECM now.

I just have a few concerns about replacing it.
Can it be a close match on numbers? Do i need a key, or can i replace without?

I would wait until James or another informed 2006 owner can look at the part number of his ECU. Toyota replaced some of them, and James and others probably have the correct part.

Is this a V6 or 4 cylinder? The VIN would be helpful.

You want the exact part number. The ECM has a cut off code with in it. Put the wrong one in and your vehicle will not start. I'm having similar issues with my 2007 and for my car they make 6 different ECM for my exact model with my specific transmission.
