Help please. For the 1st time in 3 years I’m trying to use the two 2.1 amp USB ports in my 2020 Hybrid RAV4 and they don’t work. I’ve tried Blowing compressed air into them and wiping them out wit a QTip but no luck. The Toyota dealer wants to charge me $129 for a diagnostic check but i said no way.

The main USB port in the front console works fine to charge my iphone and connect Apple Car Play. The two Rear 2.1 amp USB ports on back of the arm rework fine for charging. I’m not trying to do any data in the ports, just charge phones.

Read numerous posts but haven’t found a solution. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same issue, only it's with the rear seat USB ports. The port in the dash and the two in the center console work but not the rear seat ones. My guess is it has something to do with the Raptor lights I installed which uses a USB2 fuse under the hood. I haven't taken the time yet to test that out but I would check the fuses. For a 2020, it could be located by the driver footwell and labelled ACC-B or similar.

Will do. I opened the two fuse boxes in the engine comparment and saw labels for usb1 and usb2. Haven't pulled the fuses yet, but I plan to replace them. Will also check the 12v adapter ports under the navigation system, in the arm rest console and near rear door. If they aren't working I guess i have to find the fuses for those as well.

I have the wiring diagram for the power outlets and USB ports for my '21 RAV4; I would suspect the '20 is the same.

The USB outlet inside the center console is powered by a fuse labeled "USB2". That fuse is fed from a fuse labeled "P/OUTLET NO. 1", i.e. there are two fuses involved in getting power to the USB outlet inside the center console. That fuse is fed from an ACC power source, that is the car must be in accessory mode or on (ready mode for the hybrids).

The USB outlet on the back of the center console is has power from a fuse labeled "USB1" which is fed from a relay in the junction box (behind the under dash fuse panel). That relay is powered from a relay labeled "P/OUTLET NO.2", i.e. again there are two fuses involved in getting power to that USB outlet. That relay is activated (power to the coil) by ACC power through a fuse labeled "ECU-ACC".

All these fused are in the fuse box under the dash to the left of the steering column (my '21 hybrid fuse cover):

Some more help:

1. The rear 12 volt outlet in the cargo area, by the light for the rear cargo area is also powered through the relay powered by fuse "P/OUTLET NO. 2". Do you have power to the rear cargo 12 volt outlet when the car is in ACC mode?

2. Many RAV4s (including mine) are wired to have either USB outlets or 12 volt outlets both inside the center console and on the back of the center console (LE models come with 12 volt outlets, higher trim levels come with USB outlets). . Look for those connectors: the one for the inside of the center console is clipped to the back of the cup holders; the one for the back of the center console is taped to the wire harness going to the USB outlet. Since those are mostly powered by the same fuses, check for power on those connectors.

Neat options:

1. Since many RAV4s come with the wiring for either 12 volt outlets or USB outlets, it is easy to add 12 volt outlets in addition to the USB outlets. These threads tell you how:

2. It is possible to swap your existing USB-A outlets for USB-c outlets or even dual USB-A/C outlet or even lighted ones:

If memory serves correctly, the front USB ports in the center console are on a different fuse than the ones in the back seat. The one in the dash for CarPlay/AA is powered directly off the radio.

In my old 2020 gas I had a fuse under the hood in the driver side box for the front ports and then a separate fuse under the steering wheel for the back ports.... or maybe it was reversed.

It's been awhile and I haven't checked my 2023 to see if it's still the same.

OK I went out and checked my '23 gas model. It seems the front "cigarette" style fuse is under the steering wheel fuse box.

The front and back seat USB ports and the rear hatch "cigarette" style fuses are under the hood.

P/Outlet No 1/2 is the front/back 12v socket ports.

USB 1/2 is the front armrest/rear armrest USB ports.

The front center single USB A is from the radio.

Your year/trim might be different but hopefully between this post and the other helpful posts in this head you can find the root cause. 🍻

Thanks. I ordered these.

Those are correct. I have a similar set like that I bought from Amazon a few years ago and keep next to my spare tire with a cheap OBD2 powered scanner tool in case I ever need them when on the road.

Fuse maybe?
Thanks for your help. My 15 amp fuse at the P/Outlet No 1 location in the fuse box under the steering wheel was the culprit. Turns out the DC Car power adapter in the center front console also wasn't working. Once I replaced that 15 amp fuse, that adapter and the two USB adapters in the center armrest console (which is what started this odyssey) started working again. Side note: I had to use the fuse puller that i found inside the relay box under the hood...the one that came with the fuse packet I bought on Amazon could not remove that fuse.

Yea, but the fuse puller in that kit would not work on the 15v amp fuse that needed replaced. I had to use the one found in the relay box under the hood.
