Hi everyone,
My 2024 RAV4 Hybrid XSE was just considered totaled by insurer. So I'm now buying a 2025 RAV4 Hybrid XSE. What's been your experience with pricing? The base price for the Cavalry blue is $39,330 which includes a $375 weather package. I am in northeast Ohio. What kind of discount can I expect, if any? Just talked to a dealer, there were lots of added packages, price $44,389, not including taxes. He offered to take $400 off. I told him I would buy it today if we could agree on a number and that's all he would do.
Sort of thought in Dec, they might work with you a bit more.
Your insights are appreciated.
thank you

Discounts depend on the dealer, so shop around; you can probably find a better deal at another dealer. You should be able to find one with a $1000 discount off MSRP. (Always start with the MSRP, the price shown on the window sticker. Some slick dealers start with a higher "market value" price. )

Watch out for the high pressure sales pitches for add ons such as wheel warranty, key warranty, paint protection, scotch guard, extended warranties, etc. That is where the dealer makes the most money; don't fall for them unless you really want them.

Best deal is late in the month, late in the quarter, on a rainy or snowy nite when they want to add to their quarterly sales to increase their bonus. Best deal is from a high volume dealer ... the big guys don't have to spread the overhead over as few cars.

My experience is talk to the fleet sales person at a very big dealer even if you have to travel, agree on a price and wait for the car to come in. I have bought 4 cars that way initiating contact by email with a "I want to buy this car with only these packages and options in this color etc at this price...can you order one from your allocation. I am wiling to put a deposit down." I've gone 250+ miles to pick the car up to do several deals like that.

Hi Keith,
Good advice. There was a car that had a $2000 paint treatment--I'm guessing their cost was...$100 if that. In scrolling through websites, some dealers include the sticker which is helpful. I've called a couple of places and asked for the best price and told them I would come out today to buy. It doesn't feel like they take that seriously--those $s weren't very good. The idea of haggling tires me.
I appreciate your response.

Hi Mike,
Sage words. I guess 12/14 isn't late enough. I can wait. I just worry the car won't be there. So late quarter, late December, snowy nite. I should be able to do that in Cleveland!
Thanks much

When I ordered my Rav4 XSE hybrid a couple of months ago, the port installed options (PIO)
added up to almost $1500. The PIOs are...paint protection film, door edge guards, blackout emblem
overlays, mudguards, wheel locks, roof rack cross bars, charging cables, and first aid kit.

I asked both the salesman and sales manager if any items could be removed. I was told no, they can't
be removed as they are part of the build process. Fortunately, some of those items I want.

My dealer does not add a market adjustment.

I think if you show up in person, they might take your offer of “buying today” more seriously. When I bought my car, I was willing to drive quite a distance if their policy was to sell me a car with no mark up. I checked Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania for the car I wanted; while some dealers in those states had the car I wanted scheduled to come in, every one of those dealers was adding to the sticker price. I only found three dealers in the Chicago area who weren’t adding to the sticker price. I don’t remember the other two dealers, but one of the dealers was Bredemann Toyota in the Chicago area. They have a policy of not adding to the sticker price.
So happy for you that they considered your car totaled. Your accident sounded like a bad one, so now you can feel secure in driving an original version of the car again.

Port Installed Options and Distributor Installed Options and Dealer Installed Options high paperwork processing fees....bah...all profits for someone. They are all making money already. Decide what you think i

2024 Toyota RAV4 Prices: MSRP, Invoice vs Dealer Cost w/Holdback

Show the dealer you know what he paid for the car and the holdback fees he will get after he sells so you know his profit. He is entitled to some just to cover his overhead. Be willing to wait. The '25s will be out and '24s will be less desired.

Also check with your Auto Insurance Company some have a buyers program where they can get a discount for you. I got a discount by going through my Insurance Company and also mentioned that I would finance through my bank that would also give a discount . Both are the same USAA. The dealer gave me a good discount after mentioning them. He then quoted a price I said okay He then mentioned about finance and I just wrote out a check for the total cost. He wasn't happy but he said okay.

Also Costco has a buyers discount.

If you want the best price then you first need to be know what the best price is. That doesn’t mean getting the car for invoice, because today what is invoice? No such thing, because dealers just don’t share the price they truly pay for a vehicle from the manufacturer. Once you know what a good price is, then you need to know what a great price is, expect to pay between good and great. Next, best deal will be on a vehicle in the dealership inventory. Be willing settle, again for best price. Having to wait for delivery of the car you want will not get you the best price possible, likely not even a good price. Deal with a dealership that doesn’t add the BS options, blinking third break light, paint protection, pin stripes, etc. All ways to increase price. Also, you need to be willing to negotiate and spend time working for the best price. As a starting place check out truecar.com, they will send you to dealerships that typically sell under sticker price. Also they will provide the range of discounts the people who bought using truecar.com paid. Finally, for this month you are right at the best time to buy as long as you finish the deal before the start of the new year. January is also a good month to buy as who wants to add a car loan on top of holiday bills. My gut say anything right around $1000 under sticker price is a decent deal, could you get more off, maybe but how much time will it take you. Again, for you to walk away with the best price you need to maintain control of the situation, so don’t go in with a trade in, don’t commit to financing through the dealer unless it nets you a better deal, don’t be up against time constraints (I need a car in the next two weeks, etc). You only have control over your situation so use that to the best of your ability.

I feel your pain. I just totalled my 2022 RAV4 limited hybrid. I’m in Canada so can’t help you with pricing! Your US models are different than ours. And zero stock in dealerships. in this market discounts are hard to come by. But I would begin by getting them to take off the bogus Doc fee! I just ordered a new hybrid, either Limited or XSE/tec pkg, whichever comes in first from Toyota Leading director. Even though I’m not leasing. They get cars faster imo. My local dealership isn’t even taking names for wait list!
Good luck to you.

I bought my last Rav from the fleet manager of Western Canada! Back in 2022 in the middle of the parts shortage etc and I feel I got mine before many waiting. And here we are at the end of 2024 and still dealerships here have zero inventory for new cars! Unbelievable.

Oh no...so sorry to hear that. I know how much you loved your ruby Red Rav.

Thanks I really did love it. So now to wait, I have one on order. Hopefully only 4-5 mo wait. Will be taking whatever colour comes in first (except black lol). In the mean time we’ll be a 1 car family yikes! Ordered another Limited but told them if an XSE tec comes in I’d take it. How do you like yours?

I really like my 23 Cavalry Blue XSE although today I come out to the RAV and open the back door to get my snow brush out of the back and the left rear foam door seal has come mostly detached. Hopefully that is an easy warranty fix. Hope you get your new RAV4 soon Sue!

Is that the weather strip? The weather strips on the door just slip over the pinch weld on the body; nothing else hold them in place. You should be able to push them back on yourself without a trip to the dealer.

It's actually the vertical one at the back bottom of the door. I thought it would go over the pinch weld as well but it's it's actually held on by very tiny white clips that go into small holes on the weather stripping. It's -25 Celsius here so I'm going to let the dealer fix it as I park outside - no garage.

🥶 where the heck are you! Winterpeg? -25 yikes that’s cold. 10c here

Ah. Those little white clips are fragile and break easily. They are also used at the bottom door strip (look up the service bulletin on sloshing and splashing). Best to buy a lot of the new clips. It is impossible to take the strip off without breaking them, and the way they fix into the weather strip is difficult at best.

You might consider adding the rear fender flare splash guards which will keep debris out of that area: https://www.rav4world.com/threads/a...flares-mud-flaps-for-rav4-rear-wheel-wells.336289/?post_id=3105076#post-3105076
