Like everyone else, the hinge on my center console was broken when i bought the Rav4.

After taking out the OEM hinge (and not being able to repair it) I MacGuyver'ed up some hinges I bought from Home Depot. All that i realy did was drill a new hole so that the stock screws could hold the hinges in place. It doesn't close perfectly and won't lock shut (the lock is the problem there) but it does stay straight and I can lean on it without worry of it breaking off. it also won't open and stay up by itself. See pics.

Just thought I would share as i have been trolling these forums since I bought the RAV4 in October.

Oh yeah, I have the beaded seat cover because my A/C doesn't currently work and it beats a sticky sweaty back.

Same loose lid on my 08 R4.3 Ltd V6 4wd 32,000 miles. Evdry time i get an oil change they stretch out the hand brake cable and yank on the lid to get in the car and loosen up the lid more. Did the same on my former 04 Vibe 130,000 trouble free miles except the lid. Tnx Ted

4.1's Center console FRONT latch fix

My OEM hinge in the back of the lid is fine, but the black plastic latch on the front has slowly been getting loose (not staying latched). Just did a quick fix, on the lid: wedged a half-inch thick piece of medium-density foam weatherstripping (with sticky on one side; about 1/4 by 1/2 inch in area) between the black plastic latch and its dark gray plastic stop. Then tested carefully to make sure the latch wasn't pushed out too far (could easily snap off by going inside the console when the lid is closed. Works great now.
