hey guys, I read the "how to" threadhttp://www.rav4world.com/forums/99-4-3-mechanical/86589-new-v6-oil-change-instructions-w-pictures.html

but I have to ask...
1. Do I HAVE do remove the filter plug in order to remove the entire filter housing? I'm aware if I don't I may just shower in grease. But i was wondering if its 100% necessary for removal? reference - http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a...b3127ccefda9979982e300000040O08AbMWbVk0Ytge3nwg/cC/f=0/ps=50/r=0/rx=550/ry=400/

2. I've been using the 3 arm universal filter wrench for years, I would hate to keep it in the tool box now that I have a rav4. Does anyone use this?

I agree, the Assenmacher is the way to go on the V6. And even more so on the 2.5L I4, which has a plastic filter housing.

The housing will get damaged; that's almost a guarantee.
I would buy this for my 2008 I4 which uses regular oil filters.
You should try the "cup" style oil filter wrench it would be your best bet and fit. The cup wrenches do not destroy the oil filter housing. Bring your oil filter with you to a parts store and size it up correctly then always buy that same oil filter.
