I have seen the threads on 2019 Rav4 Android Auto Upgrade availability in USA.

Anyone got this upgrade done? or following up with Toyota.

Such a pain that 2019 Rav4 does not support Android Auto!

Thank you for your help!

Toyota Customer Service US and Canada have stated there are no plans to add AA to '19 Rav4s, feel free to ask them yourself as others have.

I called a dealership near me. I asked if they were able to put Android Auto on my 2019 XLE Premium. They said yes, $40 charge. I reiterated two more times making sure they knew I had a 2019 Rav4 and was looking for Android Auto, not Apple Carplay. And he said yes, he can do it. I then called 5 other dealerships near me and they said its not possible to do. Some said Toyota was working on something, some said it will never come. So I don't know what or who to believe. I wasn't able to get into the dealership that said they could do it until May 10th. Guess I will see if they can do it or not.

The "promised" Android Auto update has been an issue for me since I purchased my 2019 Adventure in August 2019. At the time of purchase, just before Labor Day weekend, I advised the sales rep that, although I liked the newly refreshed design, I would prefer to wait until the 2020 RAV4's arrived, as it had already been announced that AA would be standard in the newer models. The sales rep was quick to respond that Toyota had already commited to upgrading the 2019 RAV4's and that the AA upgrade was "imminent", likely within 2-6 months (yeah, yeah, I know; always get it in writing...). Based on this "commitment", I purchased my 2019, which was spec'd with everything that I wanted, short of AA.

Initially, the salesperson was quick to respond to my follow-up calls after the sale; however, that was short-lived and he obviously grew tired of the calls and emails regarding an anticipated date for the upgrade. To this day, my numerous attempts have been consistently ignored, with NO response from the dealership in well over 1.5 years. Needless to say, my routine service issues have been handled by another dealer (satisfactorily, I might add).

Which brings me to today and the reason for this post. Last week, the head-unit on my 2019 failed and is awaiting replacement. Given the broken commitment of the "imminent" AA upgrade, I saw this as an ideal opportunity for Toyota to step-up, make this right and fulfill the previous promises that were made by the original dealer, as Toyota will be replacing the JBL head-unit under warranty. I requested that the current unit be replaced with one that would have AA capability (2020/2021?) and the service writer suggested that I contact Toyota corporate customer service, as the dealership did not have authorization to upgrade the unit, if this was indeed a possiblity.

I've just spent the past three days, in contact with all three levels of "Toyota Brand Engagement", who have advised that, despite what we might have been told, they have no updated information about a pending Android Auto update for the 2019 RAV4. Furthermore, they added that replacing the head unit with a more recent OEM model will NOT provide AA compatibility, as had been suggested. So, for those who, like me, have been waiting for that "imminent" (yet, um, elusive) AA upgrade for their 2019 RAV4's, don't hold your breath.

For those who are wondering, yes, I did express frustration with what appears to be the original dealership's singular focus on meeting their Labor Day weekend sales targets, at my expense and at the expense of their honesty and integrity (for whatever that might be worth...), for which all three Toyota Brand Engagement representatives apologized. I feel it's important to note that these Toyota corporate customer service representatives did not seem at all surprised by the apparent lack of ethical standards exhibited by certain members of their sales force; but, were quick to apologize for the misinformation that I had been provided. WHAT, a car salesperson who would say or do ANYTHING to secure a sale, no matter how baseless his/her claims and promises might prove to be; who knew that was a thing (he asks, sarcastically)? As for Toyota's unwillingness to stand behind the commitments made by certain members of their illustrious sales force, I guess that "Ernestine" was right; if you're the biggest kid on the block you can do whatever...

Begs the question, how's that Tesla "dealership" model looking right about now?

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd let you all know I decided to try an Ottocast device to use Android auto over carplay. It works surprisingly well, the only issue I'm having is with the steering wheel controls. I can't skip tracks which sucks but is better than what I had. Everything works from the head unit. Here is a link to the device I am using. If there's any interest I'd be happy to record a short video

So I had problems initially connecting my RAV4 and Samsung Galaxy S21 to the Ottocast. I worked with their tech support and tested a few firmware versions. The biggest problem I had was that it just wouldn't connect reliably. One out of 3 times I started the car, the device wouldn't connect. But after playing around with the few modes they have, I improved the situation so it connects about 4 out of 5 times. (Video Mode 1 and Audio Mode 2 or 3 seem best.)

I have sometimes had complaints when making phone calls that the person I'm speaking to had some kind of distracting feedback. I'm still puzzling that out but it does seem it has also improved with Audio mode 2 or 3. The thing that is most important is I found I could keep the phone paired with my car. (I initially removed that pairing so there would be no contention between devices.)

So if I need some long phone call, I might pull the plug on the Ottocast and use the regular RAV4 handsfree.

I have another week to decide to keep it, but now that I found I can revert to the RAV4 Bluetooth if I want, I'm probably going to keep it. It's so nice having Google Maps, Waze, my podcasts, etc. on the car's center screen.

BGood1 - I have had so much frustration with my 2019 rav4 hybrid xse not having android auto that I put this topic to bed. However, on a limb last weekend, I googled android auto retrofit kits for 2019 rav4 hybrids and stumbled across a redditt forum where the users were discussing the the ottocast device as tricking the head unit into running apple carplay when it was in fact android auto. I could not believe a cheap solution existed that wouldn't void warranties with doing work to the head unit or messing up some of the electronics etc. Any ways, I also bought one ottocast x-2 pro (see link below) and plugged it in today and it worked right away! I had to reboot my phone a couple of times and turned off and on Bluetooth, but then it connected right away on the head unit. I have pictures of what it looks like and the device. I will also post another update as I gain experience with the device. According to you, seems like it may not auto connect all the time which is lame, but I believe I have a newer version of your device so I'm hopeful they did improve something lol. Any ways, I just wanted to reinforce the Ottocast option ($120) to everyone out there that wanted android auto, but did not want to touch their head unit.

PS - Thanks for mentioning this device. I wish I would have found it sooner!
