So I just got the hybrid limited fully loaded with the tech package and everything. My dealer told me I don’t have remote start on my fob and ask if I want to get the module installed and have it set up for 400. I thought a fully loaded Hybrid with the technology package would have remote start already but he said no, it’s only on the gas model. Can anyone clear up this confusion of mine? I would hate to pay 400 bucks just to find out that I had the function all along and it can be enabled through the software. He said he tried the remote start on the fob but it’s not working.

NO NO NO...
i have the limited Hybrid as well.
Its an App for android/iphone.
You get 6 months FREE, then $8.00 month or $80 per year...

But if your close to the car, your key fob will start the car, even after the 6 month trial...

It's LOCK, wait 1 sec, LOCK, wait 1 sec, then HOLD LOCK for 3 seconds

car will start

Thanks for all the help, after my insistence that he go ahead and double check for me since I was not going to double pay for something that I already had, he confirmed that you guys are correct. Apparently no one at the dealership knew, I feel bad about all the ones that might have gotten charged without them knowing. This forum is the best. Thanks everyone and happy holidays!

Yes, it is silly. They could do it like Honda does.
Use remote start. Then when you get in the vehicle the doors unlock if you have the keyfob with you. If you don't have the keyfob with you, the door doesn't unlock.
You then press the start button and off you go, the car never turns off.
I was dumbfounded when I found out how Toyota's works. It's 2020, there are better ways to do it.

Agree, maybe more elegant ways. Question, does Honda lock the doors if cars unlocked? Does Honda prevent remote start if cars unlocked? If no to any of these questions then security at risk. Toyota just takes the simplest yet most effective way. Doors must be locked, if not, must issue Lock command with App, then issue Start command. Door will not open if FOB not present when approaching car. True, seems unnecessary to redstart when opening the door with fob in hand. But security is utmost.

Works fine for me.... Btw, one thing which likely influenced Toyota to require restart is concern of entering/exiting a running vehicle. Especially a Hybrid which may be silent....seems to me a foolproof safety measure. Agree, couldn't care less about restarting.

I just purchased a certified used 2020 rav4 Hybrid, and the remote start with the fob (not the remote connect on my phone) worked for the first 2 weeks and now it has stopped working all of a sudden. I have been in talks with my dealership and they are saying that they don't see remote start noted in their computer with this car. I absolutely asked about it at the time of purchase and my salesperson went outside to check that it worked while I was speaking with the financial person, and my salesperson came back in and verbally confirmed it worked. Also, like I said, it worked for the first 2 weeks but has suddenly stopped even when I am absolutely within a close enough distance.

It turns out that somewhere in the app on May 20th I chose ‘don’t share any information with Toyota’ which turns off the DCM and also does not allow the remote to function. I was told this after pressing the SOS button and speaking with support. They told me to take to dealer was the only way to turn back on. After three hours (made appointment) they finally called it fixed. It now starts with remote or app. However every time I start the car it screams “Communications module failed, please contact your dealer if you continue to get this message’. Contacted dealer and they said it would take a few days to update. Two weeks later… going back to dealer. Seems like the remote start has low return on investment.
