just bought 2023 Rav4 XLE premium...same issue. when I connect with Bluetooth and turn on CarPlay I notice Bluetooth disconnects in my phone. Sane funky crazy scary useless apps- Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps. it's NOT APPLE and it's NOT the phone or the apps because the navigation apps work just fine when not plugged in and just fine in other cars. it's a TOYOTA problem

Hi, not sure yet, need to observe further. I think the wireless connection to android auto isn't stable. I did not encounter the maps issue when wired. If I'm far away from home and not familiar with the area I'd rather connect via wired. Not sure though, I will report if I encountered the issue again.

Hey everyone!

calling out 2023 Rav 4 buyers experiencing carplay GPS issues connecting to wireless/wired carplay.
GPS location is way off. Looks like integration/projection issue from phone to infotainment

is it Apple issue or toyota’s ? Android auto wired and wireless works perfect so dies inbuilt navigation.

apple compatibility list does not include 2023 rav 4 in it?
Hi Swaril,
I saw that you got some temporarily fix for your toyota rav4 carplay navigation from the dealer. Just wanted to check if that is really working, please let me know.

Thanks,
Raju

Same issue here. brand new 2023 xle premium. It worked fine for the first 2 weeks, then this weekend became unusable. Works fine when the phone isn't connected to the car. as soon as you try and use carplay, it just goes nuts and shows us offroading in the complete opposite direction. This happens with both of our phones, 14 and a 12. phones are completely update. even deleted from the vehicle and reset everything ( i work for bmw, no stranger to headunit issues lol) Does anyone know if you can disable the wireless and force these to use a wired connection? car play works fine in all my other vehicles, but this is the first one ive had with wireless .

You don't need to disable the wireless. Just use an Apple cable to make sure it is going to be a cable issue and plug it into the USB port in the cubby under the infotainment unit. It is the USB all by itself. That should override the wireless connection.

This is for the wired CarPlay. I had the constant drop out and reset issue with all iOS after 16.4.1. I am running now a beta of iOS17, which is the 4th public beta of the upcoming operating system. For me, the problem seems to have finally resolved.

Whether its Apple or Toyota.

what I believe is Its Toyota’s responsibility to validate this. They should not just install 10” infotainment on their top of the trim variants (xse and limited) without validating whether it works or not.

I'm having exact same issue- car is one month old. I have to use it with bluetooth and with a phone holder, making my nice 10 inch screen useless. Toyota says they have no idea. Dealer keeps mansplaining to me that I don't know how to use CarPlay. It's maddening. I'm ready to trade it in

Hi guys, it’s been freaking 4 months I bought the car, I live in Dallas, where the roads already crazy and this freaking problem makes it even worse, I’ve missed and taken exists, it’s too risky to drive with this crappy CarPlay navigation system. I strongly believe it’s iPhone problem since it never happened when I use android. I’ve already raised a ticket to apple support but no response yet. Let’s change our focus from talking about the issue to finding a way to get this fixed ASAP!!
it's not an iPhone problem. the Iphone works in other cars - no issues. also when disconnected from the car's CarPlay and just used through phone, navigation works fine. it's 100% Toyota issue

I have a question is the infotainment system in you Rav4 the standard system or the JBL system. both of my RAV4 XSE 2019 and 2020 have the JBL system and work great when wired and when wireless using the Linkit CarPlay adaptor. Wife's iPhone is a 13 pro running iOS 16 mine is a 14 pro max running iOS 17.0 beta.

Couldn't just use a USB cable to connect it at the meantime. Probably Toyota is looking for a fix but one has to be patient til that patch comes out.

I'm wondering the same thing. Is this ONLY for 2023 or ALL year's Carplay with navigation? I have an Iphone 12 IOS 17 (Beta) and it connects 100% of the time and quickly. I know IOS 16.6 (My wife's) is slower to connect and sometimes drops. IOS 16 does have connection issues---Try connecting an IOS 17 or IOS 15 Phone from a friend and see what happens.

EDIT---I'm guessing this is for WIRELESS Carplay? If so, makes sense---

I have an iPhone 11 with IOS 16.6. It also connects most of the time on my '21 RAV4 XLE hybrid, CarLink CarPlay wireless adapter (with the Corolla substitute radio). I use Google Maps as the default CarPlay display on the screen.

When it does fail to connect, or sometimes shows a blank or strange screen display on the radio, I figured out that it was due to a poor cell phone signal connection, or a low cell phone signal strength, where the cell phone is unable to get all the map data it needs for a proper display.

Thus, my conclusion is that it is mostly a '23 radio problem, and not an IOS or iPhone problem. Just my personal observations.

Just chiming in here that the issues folks are reporting with Apple Car play are also happening with Android Auto.

Half the time I get in and start the car after the Caution screen fades, the infotainment will remain black while loading my driver profile as if it is about to launch Wireless AA but eventually fails and dumps me into the normal infotainment. It shows my phone is not connected to Bluetooth or Android Auto and I have to go into Devices and force it to connect.

I also was having the delayed or lagging GPS in Android Auto in Waze, however Google's August update for the Pixel fixed this for me.

Now it's just the car and phone not auto connecting on start up.

Works fine plugged in. Very annoying. Here is hoping Toyota fixes this soon.

I had 0 problems with Android Auto with my 2020 head unit and used a wireless adapter (AAWireless) just fine. That setup was bulletproof. Toyota needs to compare notes on how to implement a wireless solution with the devs that brought that product to market.
