Hello everybody!
I'm new in this forum and also as Rav4 owner.
I got a rav4 hybrid 2wd and I'm thinking about installing an anti theft kill switch.
I googled but I'm really confused:
I read about a switch to disable steering and it seems to me the simpler solution. Can anyone help me (even with related service manual pages)?
Thanks in advance to everyone who'll give me their time.

I don't know how Ravs are equipped in your country but in the U.S. most if not all Ravs come with an engine immobilizer. Before installing, confirm that you don't already have one. Here is the U.S., the higher the radio head unit option, the higher security features the car has.

I don't remember the thread but I recall just discussing this same subject recently.

I don't think I would want to interfere with the electronics because of the risk of triggering fault codes. How about a physical lock to prevent the selector being moved out of Park? You could also achieve this electrically by interrupting the brake light switch connection but I have no idea where this is and again it risks fault codes which could prevent driving completely.

A couple of points:
1. I like the suggestion above about putting the switch in line on the bake pedal interlock sensor, but that only works for Automatic. Global markets use manuals too, so could put it on the clutch pedal sensor.
2. Assuming you have insurance against theft and vandalism, the theft coverage may not have a deductible where the vandalism coverage may. In other words, if they try and can’t steal it, you will pay towards the repairs. If they do steal it, you don’t. But you’re walking... no perfect solution.
3. Back when I drove a car with a distributor, if I had to park somewhere sketchy, I would take the rotor with me, to make sure my car was still there whenI got back. Took the rotor with me to Holland in 2004!

@Variman Thanks, but I don't wanna mess with high voltage.
I think to achieve my goal by inserting an interruptor on the brake pedal sensor cable.
I'd like any hint on that way!!
I think @somms is correct, the easier way would be to pull a fuse or two.

If I were in a high crime situation, I would address with the following:

Engine immobilizer- included in vehicle

Alarm- included in vehicle in U.S. with audio plus and above (maybe you have this already? )

Remote App with GPS finder (Lojack like)- included in vehicle with audio plus and above in U.S. (you really want to find out if you have access to this) This tells me immediately when a door or window is opened. If the car is stolen, it is tracked by GPS

The Club or similar Best Car Anti-Theft Devices: Give Your Vehicle an Extra Layer of Security

Good insurance

Possibly pull a fuel pump fuse or ignition fuse

Dash cams with parking recording and cloud storage, Thinkware does this Thinkware Dash Cam USA

Put key fobs in foil bags

Move if you can. If things are that bad, what about your safety? I realize its not always possible to move.

I suggest you find the best custom audio electronic shop you can find if you want any after market things done. Bad installations will cause almost as much problems as a break in.
