anyway to use ICE exclusively while in the break-in phase

We a picking up our RAV4 Prime tomorrow. I have read that in the first 500-1000 miles the break-in for the ICE should be like any other ICE. I would like to expedite the process by not using the EV mode at all. I have read the OM online and have searched this forum and cannot find an answer to how to disable the hybrid mode so the RAV is only using the ICE. I am of the 'old school' mentality that the oil and filter should be changed after 1k miles. I know there is controversy regarding the change intervals and it has been very helpful to read the discussions as to how one determines the mileage on the ice. However, at least for the break-in phase, I would like to use the EV minimally or not at all. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You cannot disable the "hybrid mode" of the car. But running the car in Hybrid Mode means the engine is still going to run quite a bit, and is sufficient for the break-in period. Just don't charge the car or put it in EV mode and you're good to go.

The way the car is designed, the various electric motors are always engaged and working in some form or fashion. Disabling the electric motors means you disable the vehicle, full stop.

If you want to put miles on the ICE just discharge the EV battery and put the car in Charge mode. Actually you probably don't even need to do that. Just discharge the EV battery and it will run mostly in hybrid mode which engages the ICE. Although even with the EV battery discharged it will still switch over to EV mode at slow speeds and a couple of other times.

If you don't charge it for your selected break-in period, it will operate just like any other Toyota hybrid. The ICE will start and stop as necessary to move the car. However, the ICE will run close to 90% of the time, so effectively the ICE is running for the majority of the break-in period. Take the car on a couple of 200 mile road trips will essentially take care of break-in.

You can also tap the EV/HV selection button to switch from EV mode to HV mode without needing to drain down the battery first. You fo need to tap the button every time you start the car.

if you want a "cool" trick to cheese it out , and have miles only drivin in gas mode, (this will take way too much time) fyi , but if i was gonna attempt this i would find it semi feasible

drive in charge mode explicitly , , and then leave the ac on and sleep in your car and drain the traction miles.

and keep that happening, until you break in to however many miles you want.

i actually did this for my first 2 weeks with the car since it was summer last year when i purchased, and i had thoughts about a proper oil change and break in procedures.

I had the same train of thought as you. I wanted to do a break in oil change at 1000 miles on the ICE, however my electric rates are so low and gas is so expensive that I wanted to expedite that process extremely quickly.
So what I did was, I did not charge the car. I’d drive in charge mode, and then (helps that it’s summer) leave the car either at home or at work (both secure places) ON with the AC on full blast in EV mode.
I’d then resume driving in charge mode. When I needed to leave the car unattended and locked, I’d just set the AC to max cool before turning off and getting out, and then keep turning the HVAC on from the app every 20 minutes or as often as I could or would remember. Then, back to charge mode.
Of course there were times when I couldn’t practically drain the battery down enough to drive in charge mode, and so had to drive in HV mode.
I ended up finishing the break in with a few nights of driving on open empty freeway loops at speeds that kept the ICE engaged 90% of the time in HV mode. I went 1200 miles assuming that would be equivalent to 1000 miles on the ICE.
Did my oil change at home with Amsoil, and haven’t used a drop of gas since. Matter of fact, I’m going to burn down the tank this week to get a fresh fill in, because I’ve been carrying that fuel for quite a while now.

This seems an incredibly complicated way to put miles on the ICE not to mention a waste of money / resources to charge the car just to run the AC with nobody in it.

As others have said, drive the car and don’t plug it in for however many miles you want to break it in. Open door, hit start button, shift to desired gear, drive, look at odometer. If satisfied with ICE miles - plug it in, if not repeat.

We just drove it in HV mode, with a few excursions in EV to try it out, for the first 1000 miles. Not perfect, but certainly good enough for a modern vehicle made to high tolerances.

For me one key thing was to press for an oil change at 5000 miles. The dealer said it wasn't needed until 10K, but that first batch of oil will have all the debris from the break-in period.
