Hi, new to the forum just seeing if anyone can help me with my problem. I have a 2004 RAV4 4 cylinder. The car will crank but will not turn over, i have code B2799 which is Engine Immobilizer system malfunction. Code cannot be cleared comes right back. I started my diagnosis with IG2 fuse under dash, which is good. Got a spark tester, and found i have no spark from any of the coils. Went to wiring diagram, it wants me to check the Transponder key ECU, which is tucked inside the dashboard. The transponder key amplifier, that is right on the ignition switch is not there, the connector is just hanging there. This car does not have a chip key, and does not have an immobilizer system, I checked the numbers from my ECM and it is the original ECM from when it was new. Now, all of a sudden the car is throwing an immobilzer code and thinks it has an immobilzer system. Im totally confused, Vehicle has no aftermarket alarm or remote start. Does anyone have any ideas, or has come across anything like this? thank you, - Dave

I'm now experiencing the very same issue in all details with my rav4 2005, that also do not have neither a chip key nor the immobilizer system but it shows me the B2799 code and no spark from spark plug. I would like to know how you got a ride of it. I appreciate your reply!
I think those vehicles have immobilizers. Why do you think they don't?
There's no simple fix for this. All the solutions require some technical skills or paying someone $$ to fix it by reflashing the ROM. You can try the ODB2 reset where you short pin 4 and 13 for 30 minutes (check on youtube) but that's not worked for me.

Hello, Im wondering if you fixed your issue? I am trying to troubleshoot a 2004 RAV4 that has been unable to start for SEVEN years because of this same issue and no one can figure it out. Same issue with the code and vehicle not supposed to have immobilizer. No security light, key transponder module or key transponder amplifier is in the car, but has that B2799 DTC and will crank but won't start. Any help would be appreciated. Owner claims had a professional try to re-program the ECU, but did not work. That short 4 to 13 pin is not working either.

Même problème avec le code et le véhicule n'est pas censé avoir d'antidémarrage. Il n'y a pas de voyant de sécurité, de module de transpondeur de clé ou d'amplificateur de transpondeur de clé dans la voiture, mais il a ce DTC B2799 et se lancera mais ne démarrera pas. Toute aide serait appréciée. Le propriétaire prétend qu'un professionnel a tenté de reprogrammer l'ECU, mais n'a pas fonctionné. Ce court 4 à 13 broches ne fonctionne pas non plus.
