We have a 2010 RAV4 and would like opinions on the best way to hold/display a cell phone. I've seen window mounted, dash mounted, air vent mounted and cup holder mounted. Cost aside, which system is better for, say, using the phones gps maps, etc.

I am extremely picky about my cel phone mount. I want a wireless charging mount that's in a convenient place to mount. I have never been satisfied with any mount, probably because virtually every single rig I have owned has not had a good place to mount it. I don't like vent mounts for a variety of reason. On my 2011 Rav4, the vents would place it right in front of the stereo. But then I found this jewel. It has magnetic wireless charging. Technically its for Apple's MagSafe system but it works on my Galaxy S20. The 3M Taped mount has a flexible base so I was able to mount it on a curved spot on my dash. It does interfere with the temp control access a little but since the mount can be easily re-positioned, its no problem at all. It's position is in a place where I can look at it and I'm not really taking my eyes off the road. My only complaint is that the wire hangs down in a way thats a little anoying. I installed a dual USB outlet where the lighter went but that was unsightly so I then installed another on the small panel that is on the outside of the consel. It's ok but I want to find a better setup without drilling a ton of holes. Might even hard wire it. I will try to remember to take a pic of it actually mounted later. Here is the unit on Amazon. You can also vent mount it if you want.

i like this one and is low cost!
Car Phone Holder Mount 360 Degree Rotation Dashboard Cell Phone Holder for Car Clip Mount Stand Suitable for 4 to 7 inch Smartphones (Black)
i use it for the 4.1 rav.
fits nice over the speedo cluster.
working on mounting this usb power port jack setup

5V 4.2A Marine Dual USB Car Charger Adapter Socket Waterproof with Led Digital Voltmeter for Universal Rocker Switch Boat RV Vehicle
then i can use a short usb to lightning cord or place the extra cord under the mount with zip ties.
it keeps the phone up in the line of sight so you are not looking down to the screen.

i have a media radio for hands free text as well as phone calls

I got a Spigen magnetic vent mount from Amazon which actually came as a two-pack for about $17 CDN. Plus our stupid level of taxes of course…

Works great! Clips to the vent, and has four rare earth magnets. Comes with a metal plate to stick to the back of your phone/case/inside. I have an Otterbox so it went on the inner hard case under the rubber shell. Holds great, even off-road, and puts the screen front and centre over the radio. Yes I do lose the airflow out of that vent, but I still get decent flow from the side vent. Handy though when I’m in the field taking a video chat on the phone - the AC keeps the phone from overheating and shutting down.

Personally I have a sterio system with apple car play, so I stick mine in the compartment in front of the cup holder and don’t worry about it- One of my favorite things in my rav.

That being said in the past I have always used something like this. It Mounts to your dash- I never liked the vent mounts because on cold winter days I want heat and they block it. If the suction won’t stick to the top of your dash for whatever reason get something like this to mount it on.

Good luck!
