Hey, new and 'need' a new car (want more). RAV4, 2024 or wait for 2025?

It is hard to say 'Buy now' or 'wait'. So far, no one has really seen what exactly the new 2025 Model Rav4 is going to be like.

There have been a lot of suppositions and guesses or 'hints', about changes, but so far, nothing definitive to really say 'wait' or 'buy now'.

I would say, depends on your 'need' and what you may want from the Rav4.

I can guarantee, you will find a lot of videos on Youtube, basically, hinting at what 2025 will bring, but nothing has actually been set in stone and if you go to the Toyota.com, you will only see the 2024 model line right now with nothing really showing what will be for the 2025 line.

Honestly, buy now. It's never a good idea to buy the first couple years of any new model. But now we are over 5 years in with the current RAV4, most (basically 99%) of the kinks are worked out and the platform is very, very proven.

But, it all depends on what you value. Would it bother you to have an "old" model when the new one comes out? For me, personally, I'll take the reliability of having one that's the latest revision of a proven model than be essentially a beta tester. And its just what I did - I bought a 2024 Hybrid Limited.

A redesign is definitely coming soon, but we don't know if the 2025 model will get redesigned. It could be the 2026 that gets redesigned and the 2025 ends up being a carryover.

If you wait for the 2025 and it ends up being a carryover, you would still be getting the last model of this current generation.

Waiting for the 2026 would be a very long time.

I believe you're in a good spot to buy now but if you want to take your chances and cross your fingers that the 2025 gets redesigned, then it may be worth the wait, albeit just got to remember there might be a few issues in the first model year.

If you want the newest and latest car now and don't want to wait too long, I'd look into the Crown Signia. That one should be out in a couple months.

Best of luck!

I just purchased a 2024 RAV4 Hybrid, Woodland Edition. I looked at the Crown Signia on display at the DC Auto Show a few months ago. I think it more closely resembles a station wagon than a crossover SUV. Another issue is 0w8 vs. 0w16 motor oil.

We bought now as we are nearing the end of the 5th Gen series and typically Toyotas in their final year(s) of production tend to have most, if not all, the bugs worked out.

We also wanted a non-Hybrid/non-turbo vehicle, and there is a good chance future RAV4s will be hybrid only, or possibly have a turbo (ex: '25 Camry/'24 Taco).

The first year or two (or 3) of a new generation tend to have the most TSBs to fix issues after the fact, while the later years have the fixes from the production line.

The 8th Gen Camry actually had a 7th year of production (2018 to 2024) so there is always the possibility that Toyota may try to stretch the RAV4 5th Gen the same (2019-2025). This is just speculation and nothing official has come from Toyota though.

We will have to wait and see as the year chugs along if we get a 6th gen reveal and release date.
