Has anyone made/added a cabin air filter for Gen1?

No idea if you're still active on this forum, but I've been searching everywhere for a cabin air filter mod for my 2000 Rav and the link you shared is broken. Any tips? Any info at all would be a huge help

Great. Can you share your experience? Method, materials, etc? Results?
Thanks,

Here's a funny one. We have a 1994 Lexus GS300. Oh so super luxury right?! Wrong. It came from the factory with a built-in frame for a cabin air filter, but the factory never installed them in any of the cars. Ha! They put them in the more expensive LS models, but some marketing genius thought that putting the filter paper in the GS would somehow reduce the specialness of the LS. I just recently found out about the frame, because I only bought the car a couple of years ago, and put one in. Boggles the mind.

but they still cudda put a 50 cents filter in there tho!!!!! and probably charged $200 extra for it......
No doubt. The filter I bought came from the dealer and cost something like $40. When I go to replace it, I'll try to get some hepa filter from Home Depot and put it in the filter frame.

Does any one still have pix in their saved photos for this?
Not a bad idea
I have been down for a week after getting a big dose of harvest dust…
Super dry right now in iowa
Good for the farmers as harvest is going like gang busters
Maybe 70% or more is out of the fields as of 2 weeks ago.
The dust was total brown out over the interstate in a couple of spots for a few 100 feet…
I was on inside air and still got enough to set me off.

yeah, it varies by car, my Audi seals for sure, all the dampers have well fitting seals, and the electronics test (effectively) the static pressure of the valve at it's end points.

There might also be some legal stuff, most us specs do not allow recirc to be completely cut off, always admitting some outside air so they cannot get sued for the theoretical issue of a sealed cockpit running out of O2 and getting CO2 buildup... no kidding! I had to reprogram one of my Audis to override the USA settings.

yeah, that's a little disconcerting. My wife is sensitive to the smallest change in smells, and she turns on the recirc often. So far our '24 has not "failed"... I hope yours might just take an adjustment, because the short amount of time and your reaction should not have happened..

One of our older Audis would turn recirculate off after 20 minutes, not long enough to get all the way through Los Angeles!

I found switching the HVAC system country code to japan allowed recirc to stay on indefinitely (tells you something about the air quality in their cities!)

Some of the air quality numbers are over 200 in the far east….

Ours are up to over 60 at times here due to mold or other natural trash in the air.
The fires in Canada were a big issue here and we are far away from those fires.

Yea a good full haz mat mask and a smoke machine might help to test for leaks in the recirculating air system

The rear side outlet hidden air vents might be helping to create a slight vacuum in the cabin air as well at 65 mph on the interstate travel
Then the slight pressure on the cowling air in the front
It could be pushing just a bit in the fresh air intake past the damper door for the recirculating select.
