Test light or multimeter will tell you the hot side.

 

You must mean 12V (not 5V)??? There is NO 5V fuse in the car USB ports are connected to a 12 - 5 converter.

 

My dashcam only requires 5v, the output in the standard cigarette adapter shows output = 5v. If you see my attached photo above, there are a few 5v fuses in the Rav. Still looking for any suggestions.

 

Just to clarify, those are 5 amp fuses, not 5 volt.

You'll need to add a circuit with your add-a-fuse adapter, and then step down the 12v to 5v. I did this in a previous vehicle by adding a 12v socket and then plugging in a usb car adapter which then plugs into the USB supply for the cam.

If you like I can tell you exactly what fuses I tapped in my rav4 install. I have a parking mode cam though, so I have two fuses tapped, one for vehicle on and one for vehicle off.

If you don't know exactly what you are doing here you'll be probably better off asking someone with electronics knowledge to fix it for you.

 

Ok, please note that you should double check what I'm about to say by using a 12v test probe or a multimeter to validate. Also, you should verify that the "hot" side of the fuse slot matches up with your add-a-fusekit to make sure you're actually protecting your circuits from overload.

Anyway, I am pretty sure that I used the empty/unused fuse slot below the trunk open fuse for the always-on connection to the hardwire kit, and the 15A power outlet 1 fuse for the ignition-on connection. I attached the ground to a bolt/nut above the brake pedal. I think in another thread you said you have a 2020 limited? Mine is a 2019 limited but I would bet the fuses are the same layout.

Question....With using these fuse taps, are you now just leaving the fuse box cover off, or where you able to get it back on by drilling any type of holes on the side of the case?

 

I just put my cover in the glovebox.

 

I just received my Fusetap Kit from Amazon, so will be using @zeniq 's pictures as a Guide. I printed an extension for the fusebox so will be able to replace the cover.

Is there a benefit to using the "15A P/OUTLET NO.1" instead of the BLANK spot below the "WASHER" ? I want to continue using the cigarette lighter to power a high-speed 3A USB charger.

guys I remixed that design so it would work with the fuse I tapped into that is only on when the ignition is on

Remixed UliLac's no glue design so the cut out would be by the slot I tapped for power when the ignition is on. The one on my LE was blank, but it is inbetween the 20A Washer and the 10A ECU-IG1 NO4
