Hello, I am having the same issue as everyone else on here. My fast forward function on my steering wheel are working fine, but when I plug in my phone and use apple car play, Im receiving a message that comes across my screen "Data is being required from Ipod... Please wait..." I am unable to change the songs when using car play from my steering wheel. I have noticed that when I restart or turn off my car, it will work for few songs, but then that's it. I use my apple car play daily and only use my steering wheel functions when 'I'm driving. This is extremely frustrated and I'm very annoyed with Apple... Has anyone found a solution to this problem??? Can anyone HELP ME FIND A SOULUTOIN OR NO WHAT THE CAUSE OF THIS IS???? THANK YOU
You can use the Apple iPhone Feedback form online to submit a bug report, which is what I did yesterday. I'm assuming that if Apple gets a lot of comments/complaints about the bug, they may expedite a fix. It really is an annoying problem.

I have a 2020 RAV4 XLE, and I have exactly the same problem when listening to music or podcasts via CarPlay. The problem started several days ago (around 5/25/2023) after I installed the latest Toyota Entune software update. I still haven't been able to figure out what triggers the condition. Once it starts happening during a trip, it doesn't go away by itself.

It's extremely annoying not to be able to use the audio skip forward/skip back buttons on the steering wheel. I hope there's a fix soon.

I am using an iPhone 12 Mini with the most up-to-date iOS version and apps.
Same here but with an iPhone 13 Pro Max and nothing is helping. Are they gonna address this? This is so annoying I JUST bought this car :/

Give it about 10-15 seconds and it should go away. Its genuinely retrieving data to play and display the content on the carplay

This will not go away no matter how long I wait. The I display screen also locks up as well. I can change the song on the phone itself but can not from the steering wheel controls or the screen itself. It will not reset unless I unplug the phone, but it always seems to come back.
I have tried several fixes, reset the software to factory in the Rav. Tried to update the Rav software and it is up to date. Any ideas from the group would be appreciated.

Lately, as a workaround, when the skip back/skip forward buttons (and sometimes also the volume buttons and volume knob) stop working when I'm driving, I've pressed the physical power/volume knob next to the touchscreen for several seconds, which in my case causes the RAV4 touchscreen system to reboot. When the system is back up and CarPlay reconnects, the physical buttons on the steering wheel are operational again — until the next time they stop working. For me, just unplugging the iPhone and plugging it back in doesn't always clear the problem.

One of the posts in the following thread in the online Apple Communities indicates that Apple is aware of this problem, which was introduced with iOS 16.5. Apparently, the problem also affects Chrysler 300s and VW Tiguans. Let's hope Apple fixes it in the next release.

ois 17 beta is out now.
it fixed some of my issues with hands free.

After a bunch of testing I have come up with a workaround for the volume issue but not the prev / next media controls. Start the car with your iphone plugged in and start some music, do not open carplay but instead hit "home" on the radio and go the media player there. Check to see if you can adjust volume and if so press "carplay" from the sources on the left. Volume will now work fine but this does not fix the prev / next media controls showing "Data being aquired from iPod" For that I just use the controls on the touchscreen for carplay.

I went to Toyota for routine service and I mentioned this issue. They told me that Toyota has no compatible software with the latest iphone software versions which is causing the glitches.
They lied straight to your face. It's not a compatibility issue as carplay still functions except for music. And this has nothing to do with the infotainment system. Its mainly the iOS issue since the issue is not isolated to just RAV4s.

it literally is a compability issue. why would toyota admit to not have compatible software if it’s an ios problem, it makes more sense that they’d blame apple. and it is a rav4 issue. my 2023 4runner runs just fine with the same phone and same cable.

where has Toyota admitted it was their issue other than a technician telling you it’s the case? Again CARPLAY functions. So if it wasn’t compatible, it would be CarPlay as a whole not working. This is blatantly an iOS issue. Great, you have another car that works. Many other users have complained to have the same issue outside of Toyota.

I don’t have this issue and I have both the infotainment system and CarPlay up to date. Everything functions as it should.

Same just started happening to me after getting a new iphone (14 - previous was an 11 and never happened) - it doesnt go away on its own and I Have to unplug several times before it works and then it only works for a couple songs. It is fine with bluetooth but happens every time with carplay since getting new phone. Very frustrating.

I installed the official initial version of iOS 17 yesterday, and unfortunately it didn't fix the CarPlay problem with my 2020 RAV4.

A while ago I started using a workaround that others have had great luck with — connecting my iPhone 12 Mini to the RAV4 with a wireless CarPlay adapter, purchased through Amazon. The one I bought is Wireless CarPlay Adapter Compatible with Apple Phone, 2023 Upgrade Plug & Play Dongle Wired Convert for Cars from 2015 with Factory Wired CarPlay, Fast and Easy Use Fit for iPhone iOS 10+. It was simple to set up and CarPlay has worked flawlessly since I started using the adapter over a month ago — including the skip-back/skip-forward and volume buttons on the steering wheel.

The CarPlay wireless adapter is so convenient, since CarPlay starts automatically without having to connect the iPhone to the RAV4 with a USB cable, that I'm likely to keep using the adapter even if/when Apple fixes the bug with CarPlay.
