Dealer microscratches on multimedia display, have you ever looked at yours under a flashlight?

When I got my new RAV4 I was aware of the chance of microscratches on the multimedia display from the dealer cleaning the display. The dealer however said that the display had a screen protector on it, installed by them. They even pointed to the edge on a test drive and said they didn't want to peel it up, but it was there. Even the window sticker claimed they had one that they had installed (under dealer installed options).

I bought the vehicle and then discovered that it wasn't installed. Furthermore, after inspecting it with a flashlight there are microscratches.

I installed a clear screen protector but the scratches are still visible, but only under bright sunlight or a flashlight.

Replacing the infotainment screen to get it to pristine new condition risks dash damage, rattles, or other issues due to the fact that the entire head unit and display are one part. So I have left it alone.

However, it still bothers me that they lied and that they caused damage (even if minor and not visible in most cases) to a new vehicle. If I had known that a protector wasn't installed I would have checked for microscratches before I bought the vehicle.

Since people may not be aware I thought I'd mention that these displays will develop scratches, but unless you open the sunroof and the light hits it, or unless you shine a flashlight on it, you won't generally see them.

Yup
New is not the same as untouched

Even at a factory level
Things happen

And the sticker protector gets replaced

Check in with your detail guy or gal
There are tricks to mask this

Pure coating is an old trick to help fill the micro scratches

After the protection film or glass is applied, heat of the day helps melt in the silicone as well

Not so. The 5th generation RAV4 radio is super easy to remove and replace. Pop off the top cover behind the screen, and there are four 10mm head bolts with easy access. That's it. This thread talks about it: (43) Cheap Audio Plus 8" Display Upgrade with Corolla Radio | Toyota RAV4 Forums

But a new OEM radio from the dealer will cost well over $1000, so the cost may be prohibitive.
