The dipstick tube on my 2009 V6 rav4 is corroded and flaking rust inside so I need to get this thing replaced. I called 3 dealers and each one is quoting $100(CAD) in parts and 1-2hr labour bring the total to around 300-450 after tax. This is a real kick in the nuts and seem pretty high. Does that sound right? I've been trying to learn as much DIY maintenance as I can and I'm not completely incompetent with a wrench provided I have a youtube video as a walkthrough but i can't find and references to this job online. Does anyone have a link to a resource or would be able to walk me through the job?

Thanks

That labor rate seems high to me. I don't know what may or may not be in the way. But in my experience a dipstick tube just has an O ring at the bottom. And is secured in place with a small bolt to the engine. The part price, there are a lot of places on line that sell discounted Toyota parts. I have even found places where you can order the parts discounted and pay for them online and pick up at your local dealer.
