If you had Remote Connect and the free subscription expired, you CAN still Remote Start from the keyfob using the three lock press method.

Distance is limited to about four spaces in a parking lot. Plus it times out in ten minutes or when unlock is executed. Obviously four spaces is about 30 seconds before you get to the car so the utility is low.
That appears to be true. My free subscriptions ended on my XLE 2024 and the three click method started right up

I have the remote start from the keyfob feature and I barely use it since it turns off the moment the door is opened. Just FYI might not be as useful of a feature as you think.
It's not as useful away from the home (e.g., at work or when shopping) due to the limited distance. However, I use it every single cold morning at home during the winter. 5-10 minutes before I plan to leave, I click-click-hold so that my car, seat and steering wheel are warm when I get in. Can also help with some ice on the windows.

Confirmed for 2024 Rav4 Hybrid XLE, audio upgrade or remote connected services is not needed.

I just bought this and did not connect the services. I attempted the remote start with the key (3 lock clicks), and it indeed remote starts.

also note, there is no audio upgrade option for 2024 rav4 xle hyrbid

I disconnected my remote connect service. All that does is allow you to connect your car to the phone app. The remote start from the key fob still works. It’s a little tricky to get the timing down but I think it helps if you count the turn signal lights turning on so you won’t go too fast.

Click - lights
Click - lights
Click - lights+hold

The lights should blink rapidly and turn on the car.

Yep. Works on 2024 XLE Hybrid.

I was trying to confirm this but have read conflicting info.

such as LE and XLE trims dont have remote start. XLE hybrid does tho.

Do you know if the remote start is physically possible on all hybrid trims, such as LE for example, as long as remote connect subscription is active?

Or, are there trims where its not even possible with the subscription, such as LE, or in my preferred choice of XLE?
I have a sport but I start mine off my phone remotely from anywhere

When my trial year of connected services ran out, and they wanted $15 a month to keep it, I first tried to identify what it provided that I really need/want for that expense (personally, some sttuff I like, but no), and second, I felt disgust at how much I paid for a car in which they withhold its capacities unless I pay even more.
I know right I paid for my car outright and get a year of app service that's crazy. I looked up the pricing they could at least add a yearly price

The remote start with the key fob is completely different service than the Remote Connect. When your free Remote Connect expires your key fob will still work, there is some question on how long it will work as Toyota may charge you after a number of years. From a video on this I watched, different years and models have different life spans on the free Remote start from the key fob. If you go on Youtube and search for this feature there are a couple of guys that go through all the differences in years and models. I just purchased a RAV4 Limited and it works. About the only time I use this feature in another car I own is in the winter. When the car is in the garage I open the garage door and start the car for a few minutes to warm it up. I guess you can do the same for the AC but the AC usually starts blowing cold air almost immediately, so it is not like you have to wait for AC like you do for heat.

This is my first post on this forum. I hope this post is not too long.

I have a 2023 Rav4 Limited Hybrid - Ruby Flare Pearl. I asked for a car with every possible option and I believe nothing was missed, except auto headlamp aiming. My Lexus GS has this feature, which is great for towing. It was not listed on the window sticker, but I have yet to see a RAV that actually has this option, but the owners manual mentions it. In any case, my Rav is otherwise loaded.

There seems to be some confusion on these forums about remote start and remote window down.

Remote window down must be set through the OBD interface using a TWO-WAY OBD scan tool. The dealer is NOT required, but a true two-way scan tool is. There are actually dozens of special features that can be activated through the OBD. I am fortunate to actually have access to a two-way OBD, so I took my time and set everything as I wanted. If you want one, the cheapest true two-way scan tool I have seen is about $400. Google Xtool D7. It has pretty good reviews too.

My car is 6 months old and I have already put 40,000 miles on it. I extended my NAV subscription, for $15 per month and that price automatically gives me remote access to all connected services through my app. If you dig, there are some nice features in that app. Since my phone has hot spot, I did not even activate the trial subscription for that service at all.

Someone mentioned they resent Toyota charging a subscription fee. But one must consider the network is maintained by AT&T and someone must pay AT&T. Since Toyota has no way to know how long you will keep your car, they have no way to calculate long term costs. Furthermore, many people don't care about NAV or connected services so making the service standard would make everyone have to pay [even if the cost was built into the price of the car] for services they don't need or even want. When considering AT&T usually charges at lest $30 for non-phone hot-spot and data only lines, I think that price is reasonable.

My key fob seems to have better range than many are reporting here. I can locate my car in a super market parking lot several hundred feet away. I can also remote start my car from my bedroom, while I dress, with the key fob which is nice in the Florida summer heat.

The difference, of course is range. Remote start with the fob might work 100 to 200 feet [30 to 60 meters for our metric friends], while the app has no range limit. I have no idea why the car shuts down when you open the door, probably for some liability reason, but the car's interior will not become instantly hot or cold. The car will be ready to drive at the push of the start button. If it is not very hot, or if the car is in the garage or carport, then I will use the remote window down function on the fob, which I have activated, which will save gas.

Finally, there is nothing in my owners manual that tells me ANY function on the remote requires a subscription to renew. I think Toyota could face law suits if there was a limit and they did not state so in the owner's manual, so I highly doubt that information is accurate, at least for the 2023 model year. I don't have other years to read, but I still tend to doubt it, really. But, you never know.

Of course, the difference between the fob and the app is that the fob uses no external service that must be paid for by someone and the app does. That is why there are subscription fees for the app.

I hope I have been helpful.

I believe I heard Toyota may be workings on an update so the car does not turn off when you open the door. On my Mustang the car continues to run when you open the door but you have to hit the start button once you get in to keep it running. I also saw a Youtube video where a guy uses a two way scan tool to change the windows up and down option on the key fob and with the key. I did not write down the make but it was around $180, it was only for Toyota's however. I imagine if you do some searching you can find it.

I think this is a feature that is only going to be available on the newer models with Safety Sense 3.0 and above.

I did the same thing with my VeePeak OBDI scan tool Amazon $41.00 and Carista App from the Apple store.A lot cheaper than $180.

When I took my car in for service, I asked the dealer to make the change for the window up/down feature. He did it for free.
