Yes, I went into "Subscriptions" in the Toyota app many times. It showed Dynamic Navigation as "Auto Renew On." If I clicked that, it gave me the option to "Manage subscriptions." But the only thing I could "manage" was to "cancel all subscriptions." Not kidding one bit. That was the one and only thing I could do in the entire Toyota app, in regards to "subscriptions." If you're seeing something different than what I have described, perhaps that might be because you have an active Dynamic Navigation subscription. At the time when I went through this routine, mine had been expired for about six months.
Thanks for your terrific posts explaining what you went through, thoots. I'm in your situation, and my experience with the app is precisely the same. Reading through the forum, I think everyone's experience is the same, even if they have an active Dynamic Navigation subscription. [sarcasm] Thank goodness I just updated the app. [/sarcasm]

I had actually convinced myself that Dynamic Navigation hadn't expired, since everything seemed to work as it had.

I Googled "Toyota Dynamic Navigation Renewal" as you suggested, and the first result directed me to Part Number TOYA00CY1719 here. It explains that this is what is included in Dynamic Navigation:

Dynamic Navigation is a cloud base service that offers:
  • Updated Points of Interest
  • Improved Routing
  • Latest maps from the cloud
And of course, it also says that "this part is no longer available".

Soooo ... my question is whether the kit you installed actually worked, and did it seem to do all three of those things? Do you know if "improved routing" means consideration of traffic, construction, etc.? And if everything worked, can you direct me to a link for the kit you bought?

On a related note, apparently if I want to cancel auto-renew for any subscription in the app, I have to tap the "Cancel all subscriptions" button and hope it lets me manage them individually. I haven't had the guts to do that yet.

It's (searching for word, failing) astounding that Toyota has made all of this so hard.

You bet. By all means, go find the "savagegeese" video on YouTube, in which a whole bunch of Toyota folks talk about how absolutely wonderful all of this is. And then Toyota couldn't have made it more difficult to keep all of these "Connected Services" working.

Here is a link to what I purchased:

It's a source that has been reported a number of times here in this forum, so it seems to be trustworthy. "Worked for me."

It was exceedingly easy to prove that my Dynamic Navigation stopped working after it had expired, and when it started working again, after my local dealership installed the renewal kit. Just a couple of miles from that dealership was a new street that "disappeared" after Dynamic Navigation expired. So I went straight to that street again after the renewal was installed, and it showed up again. Simple as that.

Also, you can't help but notice the banner that pops up on the screen, which says something like "Optimized route now downloaded from the cloud" right after you finish setting a destination into your navigation system. Whatever the wording is, you'll get that if you have Dynamic Navigation installed, and you won't get it if you don't.

As for traffic and construction and such, I'm really not sure. I believe that the navigation system on its own will try to reroute you to avoid traffic jams and such. Dynamic Navigation will certainly provide the latest maps, and perhaps it'll take over whatever might have been reported for traffic and such -- but I certainly don't know for sure about that.

I hope this helps. And a few words of advice -- you might call around to all of the dealerships in your area, and ask about how much they would charge you to install the kit. You might find a better deal than I did. Good luck!

I have a 22 RAV4 Limited and it was delivered without Dynamic Navigation. There are a few places where I live that have poor cell service. Can anybody tell me if Dynamic Navigation can be added to a vehicle post delivery?
No.

Best bet where there is poor cell phone service would be to get a Garmin.

Rethinking this, Google maps on a smart phone/tablet, buffers the map data so you don't loose navigation when the cell phone service is spotty.

To anyone still reading this thread be advised that on September 15th; three years since delivery the dynamic navigation link on the app disappeared completely. The next day however it popped up and asked it I wanted to start a two year trial. I followed the steps and as far as I know the navigation has not stopped functioning as it did in the past. I guess one day at a time. Thanks to all.

Navigation does not stop working when the trial period ends, only the cloud features.
If you subscribed to the $8/mo plan then you should have the same services as you did when it was free to you.

Honestly I was a built in nav advocate for decades and the new Rav did not offer it for our xse hybrid. So I went with wireless Carplay using an Ottocast U2-Air. No plugging in ever. Or I could have used the Android eqivalent.

The map button still works. Voice command works. Using Google Maps allows you to download maps to your phone which then provides directions even if cell service is gone. Nothing beats live Google Maps traffic, end of story. Plus all your saved destinations are on your phone.

How about having incoming messages read to you? Respond by voice as well. Announce name of incoming call? Sure.

Yes there is a short learning curve but setting Home and Work addresses simplifies things. Push voice button and say "Directions to Home" will get the spouse out of anywhere and heading home. Same with any other destination.
