Gidday, when removing the front hub for replacement, the axle nut thread got a bit damaged so looking for a replacement.
What I want to know is are they the same used on the 2nd gen RAV4s? There's no gen 3s at any dismantling yards that are open over the weekend. Cheers

You may find that the nut is a lock nut that has been slightly crushed to prevent the nut from backing off. Many consider them a one time use and if you try to get a used one it will be in the same condition.

I'd reuse it. The "damaged" spot at about 6 o'clock is where it was dimpled into the slot in the CV shaft to keep it from coming loose. You can use a punch to dimple it in again which may be in a new spot. Unless you break that spot out completely it will hold the nut on just fine.

When replacing the CV shaft replacement ones usually come with new nuts.

Forget looking at a parts yard since as Automender says ALL used ones will have the same indent.

These axle hub nut are not that expensive. Just get a new one. Rockauto is charging $4-10 only.

They're like 8 bucks buy a new one or use the old one if it still goes on without messing up the threads

We don't have rockauto in new Zealand.

I got another outer CV and replaced that way. We don't have any suppliers in new Zealand that sell the nuts which is why I was asking for info on 2nd gen RAVs. The old CV thread was stuffed.

I suggest going to a Toyota dealer and get one from there if you are not too far away. If a dealer is too far then find one that can ship you the part.
