I recently cleaned the EGR valve and the vacuum modulator (to fix check engine light) -- that fixed the check engine light, but now the idle rpm seems to have gone up. After warm up, idle with foot on brake - 900 rpm, Idle in park - 1100 rpm. Is this normal or did I accidentally screw up something?

Yes, sounds like a vacuum leak to me, most likely something around the egr valve.
Or the hoses are out of place.
Maybe pinch hoses to block and spot where the air is getting in.
There is also the iscv (Idle Speed Control Valve) on the throttle assembly, make sure the connections are good to that.

btw, it`s always warm over here, tropical climate of about 30-33 deg C all the time. *smile*
