1. With handbrake on, pump brake pedal twice (then release handbrake)

2. Hold down brake pedal, pump handbrake twice (then release brake pedal)

3. With handbrake on, pump brake pedal twice (then release handbrake)
At what state was the handbrake in at the end of step 2 and beginning of step 3?

Step 3 seems to indicate that the hand brake was already on. So in step two, "pump handbrake twice" would be to put the handbrake on, then off, then on, right?

A single pump would be an on and an off, I think.

Yes, a pump is a an up then down of the handle. I goes down at the end of step 1 and the two pumps (up down up down) leave it down at the end of step 2.

Try it. Once you get the sequence right you can do it in 5 seconds max. If the skid light doesn't come on you either messed it up or did it too slow. Just turn the key off and restart the engine to reset the ECM for another try.
OK. I could read steps 1 and 3 as if they said "Put handbrake on, pump brake pedal twice (then release handbrake) ".

I have the button on my 2009. I guess I should figure out when to use that.
