Similar problem here , maybe someone has experienced the same ? Intermittent " Check 4x4 System " comes up on my 2010 2.2D .Only comes on after driving 15-20 minutes at higher speeds. Diagnostic test gave a C1298 message Linear Solenoid.

Up on the ramp , checked fluid levels in both rear diff and transfer box, all good . Went to look at the electrical plug on the rear diff ( I'm thinking that this controls the electromechanical clutch on the front of the rear diff ) Plug was contaminated with oil ........... so would this point to an internal failure of the solenoid allowing the oil in the diff when heated to short out or open circuit the ECU signal to the solenoid ? thereby bringing on check 4x4 message.
I've read that axle seal failure happens ( often attributable to the breather being blocked ) but not seen any reports of the oil tracking up the wiring.....

Looking forward if a whole replacement diff is needed , any reputable suppliers / rebuilders known in the SE of England ?

Yes , thanks for the reply.......The electrical connector was cleaned well with solvent, but I'm thinking that oil will migrate again along the wiring . Pins looked clean as far as we could tell. Photo is a rear diff ( not mine ) that I could buy and refurbish with new seals, check for bearing wear and then swap with mine......only problem being finding a window of opportunity to do this
