Jumping another vehicle

Hi - I have 2022 Prime. I was trying to use the Rav4 to jump another car that I have with a dead battery. I used the positive terminal on the fuse box but it doesn’t seem to be generating current in the cable and I couldn’t jump the car. Also when I touch the two distal jumper clamps there’s no spark/arc. Is there a different spot to hook them up to jump another car? Thanks!

You can jump another hybrid by using the positive under hood connection and a good ground under the hood. The manual has a diagram of where to connect. As the manual states, never jump start anything other than another hybrid.

By the way, it is NOT a good idea to touch the positive and negative jumper cables together to test if you have a spark. This can weld the two cables together and create a bigger problem.

I have a jump pack in the back of my RAV at all times. I will refuse to jump anyone vehicle with mine as I would not risk it at all. I would rather risk an $80 jump pack that a $30k+ vehicle.

EDIT: I currently have this one. I've had it since 2019 and has worked every time I've needed it. At one point it had sit for over 2 years without me touching it and pulled it out to jump someones car at a Walmart parking lot and it kicked it over real quick with no hesitation and I haven't touched it since. I should check to see the charge state, lol.

Location of the jump pack is indeed an issue. Prius drivers have that nice cargo stow space. Temptation to keep in there. PITA if you are a overweight/old/sickish etc. Not so much spare space under the RAV4 rear hatch floor. Interesting question.... I don't know where my jump pack is, but suspect its in the floor space behind the driver seat. At 6'5" 260, no one wants to sit behind me! So that seat and floor area is the stowage space.....

A jump pack is the way to go, BUT from experience, I will tell you that the smaller ones do NOT live up to their claims often. They tend to say "Up to 6 liter gas, 5 liter diesel" etc. Has been my experience that if you get one, get a big one and moreover, get one that has a "boost" mode. If the dead battery is really dead, and the dead vehicle is an ICE, then the dead ICE battery will "suck" up the lithium boost pack. If the ICE battery is just weak, then all is well. Problem occurs when the lead acid battery is just plain flat from lights on situation etc....

I just want to point out, I also agree that the small ones don't always live up to the claimed power output, but they will be plenty for the R4P. The choice to get a bigger one is only to help others with bigger ICE vehicles or your own other vehicles if that be the case. As you mentioned, the "Boost" manual override mode is a very nice function to have.
