So after reading all the posts about the map button on my 2022 Rav4
i must assume the only way to get navigation maps is thru my iphone
If that’s the case this will be my last Rav 4 .

Yes, the maps appear on the car radio screen via CarPlay. You can choose between Apple Maps (which comes with all iPhones, or any other map app such as Google Maps. I like the Google maps better than Apple maps.

BTW, Toyota doesn't care if you buy another RAV4 or not since they are selling them as fast as they can make them.

Five models have Dynamic Navigation as an option combined with a lot of other tech. Free updates for three years. Updates were extra in the past on their more widely standard nav systems.

The Carplay function is acceptable especially if you buy a wireless adapter like the Ottocast u2-air. Otherwise on a 2022 you have to plug in the phone. With Carplay the default Apple Maps is good and accepts voice commands easily. You can concurrently use Google Maps which is slightly better on realtime traffic since they monitor many of the users on the road with you to quickly map slowdowns. Apple Maps does a decent job as well and is easier to use by voice.

You can also download Google maps to your phone so basic navigation will work without cell service.

With the iPhone or android you can also use Waze it works okay and can alert you to hazards and traffic ahead of you since many people use Waze in their vehicles. I have used all four, Toyota Navigation, Apple maps, Google Maps and Waze. All will get the job done with different features missing on each one. Going to try Sygic next.
