Has anyone come up with a solution for the screen glare? I test drove three different RAV4's early to mid afternoon and noticed the screen glare each time. It totally washed out at times during the drive and when using the back up cam. I'm looking to purchase a new SUV and the RAV4 is at the top of the list but probably won't until there is a fix for this.

Test drove the CX-5 and didn't have the glare problem.

Yesterday I placed an Anti- Glare film from NuShield on my Navi screen and there is def some glare there still.
not nearly as bad but still noticeable... this tuesday I have an appointment at the dealership to have the Toyota Tech Tip # 0232-13 done as well as have my alarm system installed.

I'll let you know if the tech tip helped any with the NuShield on there

Is the tech tip 232-13 for the Nav Screen being applied at the factory on newly built Ravs? I would hope so.
The problem is (from what I understand by reading the Tech Tip) that it has to be done every time the head unit loses power. The fix is to go into and then exit Diagnostics mode. (While pressing and holding the "Media" or "Audio" switch, operate the light control switch: Off → Tail → Off → Tail → Off → Tail → Off.)

This "will reset (equalize) the brightness of the screens. (No additional steps are required)"

How do you know this, and how do we get into the diagnostics mode?

Thanks. I didn't know that TT-0232-13 was available to the public. Can you post a copy?
I paid 15 USD for a 2-day pass to the techinfo site

I am trying to download as much as I can while I have access, but they don't make it easy. Often instead of providing a single document they break it up into multiple parts that you have to download one at at time. For instance the Repair Manual has more than 500 parts to it!

As far as posting it here, what are the rules concerning that? I am new here and don't want to cause trouble...

Can you please elaborate here a little???

Which light control switch is used to turn on and off the Tail?
The same switch that controls the headlights?

so I just hold down the audio button while turning this switch off and on three times? ???
sorry, just a little confused.

TIA, r4v4n

Keep in mind that I don't even own one of these (though I hope to soon), but from what I can tell they are talking about the normal headlights switch. The first position turns on the side marker, parking, tail, license plate, daytime running lights, and instrument panel lights

Yes, please let me know if the NuShield and tech tip works. I was thinking about making some type of visor but really shouldn't have to do all that on a new vehicle.
On my test drives I also got glare from the metal strip above the screen (read a post one guy painted it black) and glare from the plastic cover on the temp control. Maybe the NuShield would work for those too. Not real concerned about those. Anybody else notice glare from those spots?
Thank You all for your input.

Occasional glare from the spots you mentioned but the big one is the screen. Almost blinds me in the morning. A combination of my driving direction and time of day conspires to reflect the sunlight right into my eyes. My wife has to put her hands over the screen so I can drive safely. I was thinking of cutting out a piece of black construction paper with a tab which would slide into the CD slot and cover the screen for times like this.:(

That's pretty bad. I didn't experience the blinding glare off the screen in my test drives, it just washed out to the point of not being able to read/see it. Maybe the NuShield film that's been mentioned would prevent that amount of glare. (Hopefully enough to give your wife's arm a rest!:))
Toyota needs to fix this!!

^^^ fwiw, the NuShield definitely reduces the amount of light glare that reflects directly from the sun.

Although, there's still some glare there tho, but it isn't nearly as bad as when the Shield wasn't there.

I should be going in today or tomorrow to have tech tip done... will report here after that happens with the results.

Thank you...I am looking forward to hearing your take on it.

Is there a difference in brightness, contrast, etc between the audio screen and the nav/apps/phone screen? Because that is all the tech tip corrects. When the battery gets disconnected it causes the nav screen to be dimmer than the audio screen. Going into the diagnostic mode and then exiting will "equalize" the brightness of the screens.

I have decided to go ahead and provide a link to the tech tip here... T-TT-0232-13 - Audio Display Brightness Difference Between Audio Screen and Map_APPs_Phone Screen.pdf

Also at the bottom of the tech tip there is a link to a section of the Repair Manual. It can be found here... RM1000000004ZPI - DTC CHECK_CLEAR.mht
