Your car enables the passenger air bag only when it detects someone is sitting there. When you have a passenger in the seat, the light will go off.

I rarely drive with a front passenger and I don't have a constantly alert light...you might want to get that checked out. Maybe they've changed it in the newer builds to be more clear about when it's on or off?

The light stays on in my 2023 Toyota Rav 4 even when there’s someone sitting there

 

It stays on in our 23 Limited hybrid all the time also.

 

Do you have something under the passenger seat that could lift it?

 

According to page 55 of the owners manual for the '23 the passenger airbag light should show "ON" when an adult sized passenger sits in the front seat. My XLE also shows "OFF" under those conditions.


"If an adult sits in the front passenger seat, the “AIR BAG ON” indicator
light is illuminated. If the “AIR BAG OFF” indicator is illuminated, ask the
passenger to sit up straight, well back in the seat, feet on the floor, and
with the seat belt worn correctly. If the “AIR BAG OFF” indicator still
remains illuminated, either ask the passenger to move to the rear seat, or
if that is not possible, move the front passenger seat fully rearward."

 

I literally just read that in my owner's manual a minute ago. Mine remains "off" when I sit in the seat. Time to get that checked out.

 

OK, after reading through the manual again, I went out & checked the messages on the dash & mine is working correctly. The air bag is off with no one sitting in the seat and on when I sit in the seat with seat belt fastened. The yellow message on the dash does remain on.
