OK, I just joined the club. Please "vote" and if yes, post a brief description of the failure.

2007 V6 Ltd, 24,000 miles, noticed lots of crusty pink deposits and the reservoir was down 1/4 inch. NO funny noises or puddles on the ground - I guess I caught it early. The engine was clean four months ago... To be fixed under the 5 year/ 50K Drivetrain Warranty.

EDIT: on my V6, when looking from above, there is NO sign of dried coolant "crust" - but it is easily seen from the right wheel well when the wheel is off. I suggest V6 owners check the bottom of the engine routinely whenever that wheel is removed!!!!

Moderator, can we make this a Sticky please?

Ours failed on our 07 V6... sounded like it was pumping marbles, no visible leaking although I did top off the coolant once or twice in the last 15K-20K.

just curious, is the water pump failing or leaking? ... I haven't noticed anything after 100K miles with my '06 so far
There is another thread with lots of folks chiming in. It seemed like too many to be coincidence, so I decided to see what a poll will show.

I haven't searched to see what else there is in the past.

Mine leaked onto the alternator/belt and got thrown up in a straight line across the underside of the hood. The pump still worked, however I would have to fill the coolant once a year and my dealership told me that it was on the way out. I had it replaced under warranty. I kind of wonder if it was a defect that was there since day 1 because it always seemed to 'eat' a bit of coolant....

My Ltd V6 is stuck in the shop - they swapped in a new pump and it leaked worse than the old one ("drip... drip... drip"). They had to order another pump, so the trucklet is probably going to be out of action until next week.

I talked to the service adviser out V6 pump failures, told him about this discussion, and he had not noticed a trend, but would "pay closer attention to it".

My RAV4 is a Limited V6 FWD with 42,400 miles. Right now I am in the service department at my Toyota dealership for an oil change, tire rotation and for the recall for the oil hose and my service rep sits down next to me in the waiting room (they never do that, so I knew the news was not good) and told me my water pump needs replaced. So much for Toyota quality.

I did not notice any leakage so maybe they are being proactive in addressing the issue now. Fortunately the repair falls under my powertrain warranty and this will not cost me anything.

Should I drive with confdience in the future? I am mildly shaken up by all that has recently occurred.

I am on the list

Well at 50,000kms mine has failed; I am lucky too, just came back from a long
road trip to PA.
Didn't notice anything during the trip; but when I came back I noticed a squeal
and thought it was a fan belt; which made me check the engine compartment

when I opened it I could easily hear a rumbling (it was fairly quite) but
unusual than I remembered; I also noticed the coolant level was lower
below the low level mark. So was going to bring it in later that week.
But the rumbling got louder So I ended up booking an appointment today.

Last night I checked under the car no coolant then by chance I noticed a wet spot
on the suspension arm; and it turned out to be coolant......
Technician confirmed it today; luckily its still covered under warranty..(one one month left)

Don't know what the sequel was but told the technician about it, he sort of shrugged it off as it disappears within a few minutes of the engine running;
I'll have to keep my eye on it

Sounds like some coolant got on the belt and made it slip and squeal. Glad to hear you're getting it fixed under warranty! Any thoughts on getting an extended warranty before it's too late?

I took the Rav in for the oil hose fix on February 17, and was informed that the coolant needed topping up (which they did), but no leaks could be found. They would check it again at the next service. That was only 530 kilometres ago. This morning I checked the coolant level, and it is down half an inch when cold, and at normal operating temperature, it still is below the "COLD" mark. My wife is going on a road trip in a couple of weeks, and I want to get the problem resolved before then, so I phoned the dealership this morning, and I have an appointment at 2:00 p.m. today. I'll post again when I have something to report.
Maybe I'll join the "Water Pump Club"!

Yeah, that's what I think it might be after looking at the image from another post

Initially was not thinking of the extended warranty but after this the thought has
crossed my mind
Considering that a few 1000k more or a couple of months more this would
have cost me a few hundred bucks easily
(they said it will take them the day to fix)

Yours sounds definitely like a leak; check to see if you can hear anything when the
engine is running; mine sounded like .... something loose knocking ; or "cooking
clams in a pot; when you stir the pot"

you can also check for coolant on the right side at the bottom on chassis; looked
like a wet spot (had to access from underneath); I wiped it with some toilet paper
to confirm its coolant (pink)

Update:
They put the RAV on a hoist and could not find any sign of a leak again. This time they filled the reservoir with coolant right up to the top. I'll be watching it carefully!

vb_king, There is no strange noise (yet!) I haven't looked underneath.

There may be some coolant come out of the overflow at the top of the tank. If they filled the reservoir up, that would not indicate a problem. For testing, you might hook a hose temporarily to a little container that you put under the hood to help you distinguish coolant coming from that overflow from coolant from anywhere else.

This exact scenario happened to me yesterday. Still at the Dealer today.

52,000km, 3years and 12 days... mine started doing the noise described by others. Just dropped it off at the dealership to check the problem, but I'm pretty much sure it's the same problem...

wife is 36weeks pregnant, hope they fix the problem soon, don't want her to get stressed because I don't have a car! and I hope that they either put it under the 5 year warranty, or they let it under the 3 year warranty even if it's over by 12 days...
does it really fall under the powertrain, or is it just because your dealership is nice?

just got confirmation that my water pump is going, a couple of days before they get it, but it's safe to drive... and it's covered !!!

Would water pump failure cause bad fuel economy? I filled up my coolant last week and now it's back down to the low mark already. I'm going to have to bring it up to the service department when I get my next oil change in a few weeks. I don't know if it's leaking or if it just all came out the relief valve.
