Has anyone did any research on swapping out the 12V outlet with the 120VAC combo outlet found in the Adventure?

My Limited has only the 12V and I would love to change it out with the 12V/120VAC combo

Is it possible. I will assume that there must be an inverter needed to be added behind the paneling.

My curiosity stemmed from the tow hitch wiring instructions.

They show a picture of the rear of the two types of inserts for the power outlet and they look interchangeable at least from the point of view from the cargo area.:

Yes, you will need an inverter to convert from 12v DC to 120v AC. My concern is with the gauge of the wire from the actual DC lighter plug back to the battery. If my eyes are not playing tricks on me, I see that the Adventure has a 100 W output or roughly a max. of 1 Amp AC, not much. Pretty sure you can't go any higher than a 100 w Inverter has the wiring won't be able to handle that. As a quick rule of thumb, there is a ratio of 10 to 1 from DC to AC with inverter, so if you need
120V/2 Amp AC ouptput, it will draw 10 times more on the battery or 20 Amp.

That 100V/1500W is very useful.
My TRD has 110V/100W only. I added a 12V/240W and a 24V/480W from a 2nd battery.

Does anyone know the part number for the Fig. 21-7 (the insert and the outlets) ? I am thinking to do the same thing as JFox mentioned~ that will be very helpful when I need to charge the camera battery!

BTW, Japanese model offers 100v/1500w for the hybrid model!

So about $500 for the inverter, outlet and trim, and $1500 for the harness if needed, for 100 watts of power. As much as I like Toyota parts, I think in this case attaching a 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter directly to the 12 volt aux battery is not only cheaper, but you get way more power. I have about $300 invested in my Xantrex setup that I can use in both my Prius and Rav4H.

Now the factory 1500 watt inverter connected to the HV battery in the Highlander, Prime, and Sienna, that would be worth it to me to. Perhaps someone can post the parts and diagram to do this if possible on the Rav4H? Someone posted the inverter here a few weeks ago.

I can speak for the gas version as I have not researched it.

But isn't the 110VAC outlet in the Adventure which doesn't come as a hybrid?

Get one of these call it a day it may not look as clean as stock. Ask your do you really use it often? My tacoma has 400w on bed cant recall time I actually needed it.

Is there a 1000 w one that can plug into the cigarette outlets? Or is that too much for the outlet and needs to be directly connected to the 12v battery terminal?

Too much power draw, needs to come off the battery terminals.

Even then in the hybrid, I have questions if the wire between the car's inverter and the 12 volt aux battery are thick enough to support an 80 amp load as they appear to be something like 8 AWG. Personally, for my hybrids, while I have a pure sine wave 1000 watt inverter, I will never let it exceed an 700 watt or so constant load just to be on the safe side, 1000 watt surges perhaps.

I don't know the wire size of the Prime, perhaps you can ask someone to check. Its easy, they can just take a picture of the jump charging port under the hood. The thicker red wire is the one that goes back to the 12 volt aux battery, unless the Prime is different.

Not sure if something changed for 2020 but my 2019 gas only Limited came with a 12V cigarette light type port in the cargo area.
