Problems with the 2010 Rav4 [seats uncomfortable? / bike rack?]

So a couple of weeks I started my lease on the 2010 Rav4. So far I have had problems. :(

Originally I was driving a 1999 Sienna Van. It was great, but now that I have the Rav4 I have noticed a big difference. The Driver and Passenger seats are not very comfortable and give me back and leg pains (right knee and down leg). When I test drove it must not have been long enough to notice. I do a lot of city driving, so I am going between the gas and brake petal alot. I am currently using foam pads and towels in the seat to try to adjust the seat but I have not found a comfortable position yet. The problem with the seat is that you can not adust it to raise it level high enough. When you raise it or pump it up, it only raises the back or the part where your rearend is on the seat, not the part under your thigh of your leg. When I drive my van (I haven't sold my van yet) I don't feel any discomfort. The seat on the van was longer, higher and more level. When you raised it, the whole seat raised the same way not just the back end of the seat.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what have you done to remedy this situation?

Has anyone put mud flaps on this vehicle? Does this help with keeping the back clean. The back seems to get dirty fast.

Has anyone put a bick rack on the back of the Rav4? I want one that is not on the tire?

I wish I would have gotten another Sienna van. I like how the Rav4 drives, but I do not like the seat problem and all the pain I am in from it.

Another thing I have noticed is that on my van, the seat is longer but in the Rav4 the seat is shorter so my legs don't have as much seat to rest on.

Has anyone also had any leg or back discomfort? Please reply and tell me what you have done to fix your problems.

A few have had seat problems...please use search. Mud flaps are a must as far as I'm concerned (use search)
Bike rack? Lots of talk.......use search please. This is one of the few forums where search actually works.
I wish you had gotten the Van also. Talk to your dealer and see if you can swap without taking it in the shorts.

Hi,
yes the search will come up with my post Re Seat comfort. Took it to a uphostery shop and got the seat and side support re stuffed with a softer foam while raising the seat bed slightly .. and we too have the same year Sienna and yes the seats are way more comforable even after 130,000 miles..
Good luck , and my 'adjustment' cost $140.00 and well worth it as now my leg (s) dont fall asleep after 45 minutes..

Note that if you do any permanent modifications to the vehicle such as re-padding the seat, they may charge you excess for it when your lease ends and you turn it in.

Hiya,
yes you are right, but at a glance one cant tell . and even if the dealership did sit in the vehicle it is sooo comfortable that i doubt if any bells would go off .... Still it's too bad to have this problem so early in the lease.

I am also having horrible problems with the seat. In fact, I have a physical therapy appt next week because the pain is so severe in my neck and back. On my seat the butt is always lower than the knees which makes me always in a recline position so that if I am close enough to the steering wheel so that my arms aren't straight out and awkward, my legs are all jammed up, etc.

someone suggested having the seat re-stuffed. Where does one go for that? It would defintatly be worth the money, as I am thking I need to trade in for a different car....
manty thanks

hi, and sorry to hear of the seat issue ... It was me who posted about getting the seat re 'stuffed' . In my case i had a softer seat foam installed and the side bolsters had the same treatment ... The seat remained the same size and shape so you cant tell at a glance .......It cost me about $140 at a uphostery shop . But do some research from car clubs etc before getting it done ...
Best to ya,

Any advice?

I am 5 11, about 150 lb, have a huge trouble with the seat. Followed the advice on the forums and had the foam replaced. This has helped a bit but still get back pain after an hour or so in the car. The funny thing is that I find the passenger seat to be comfortable for some reason.

Any other advice of how to approach it. I love the car, but if I can't drive it would be forced to sell it, losing a lot of money.

Any help is much appreciated.

Wrong seat position

I've seen several threads on this and I'm convinced that those having problems don't have their seats adjusted properly or are not sitting properly in the seat. Here's a good thread discussing the seats and headrests with some suggestions that may help some of you. (click here)
