I’m hoping to order a R4P. Seems like 4 years is the current wait time, which seems crazy. Has anyone here from Canada got their Prime? And was the dealers estimate correct?

I put in my order at 2 dealers in the Montreal area around March 21. One of the dealers have told me that 2023 would be delivery time. The 2nd dealer offered me a SE in July 2021 and a xse premium around October of 2021. I refused both. I am now waiting gor my 2022 R4P xse premium to arrive in July 2022. I was hoping to get it before July 1st to get the 8k Quebec rebate. After July 1st it goes down to 5k. As you can see there is a variation of delivery time between the 2 dealers. Not sure why.

I was just informed two nights ago by Truro NS Toyota that the wait is 2-4 years now…. We’re about to withdraw our reservation cash and move onto something we can get sooner. If it’s truly four years (always hope for the best but plan for the worst) we might as well just get something sooner and see where the market is in four years….

I can't tell you how many people I've talked to that want a R4P but can't get one. I could have sold 20+ in the last year or so, immediately, probably could have sold mine but it's not for sale. And I'm just one person. Most frequently asked question at the EV car show was how did I get one?

Toyota is really dropping the ball on this one. By the time stock is out, people will be moved on to something else. Seems like a compliance vehicle even though it's amazing and incredible... I realize Toyota isn't super into anything but gas & hybrid but c'mon the time is ripe to flood the market with R4P.

I could not agree more on your statement.

Hello
We are in Toronto Ontario and just received our ‘22 Prime XSE with technology. For us it had taken 20 months since we ordered which was back in 2020. Even at that it is not the Colour we wanted.

According to our dealer, she informing anyone interested in placing a new order, they are now looking two years before it comes in. As she stated, they have no idea when they’re going to arrive, but have a long list of pre orders. Speaking to the owner of the dealership, they don’t expect this to change over the next few years plus re R4P.

Hardest decision now Is if we’re going to keep it or sell it before we put on1000KM. :)

Well, we put in an order for a Ford Maverick Lariat Ecoboost. Canada has now stopped Hybrid orders. We are now viewing our purchase as a transition to full ev in a few years. We tried to get in now but without any way of knowing if we could even get a car, we had to get something. We sold out Xterra the other night for more than we paid 7 years ago which is insane. Anyways, we are going to hopefully have our Maverick in 3-5 months which is better than ??? years….. it gets 33mpg on highway which is not bad for us and it’s AWD….

Over and out…..

We placed our order in August 2021 with a dealer in Toronto. At the time we were told it would be about 6-8 months. Followed up recently and were told we are still number 6 on the list as they have not received any R4P since August 2021. They were hoping to get 3-4 this year, so maybe we will get one in 2023 but they have no idea. So frustrating!!!

Reminds me of the old Heinz Ketchup jingle…’Anticipation…its making me wait’.
So ordered April ‘21, last guess was Spring, next guess was later. Well, has given me the time to read more about this vehicle than any other, ever. I’ve learned that if I get it undercoated to do so only in targeted areas avoiding anything hybrid related. To replace the meep meep horn. Lots about the hybrid drive line (Weber Auto). That it sounds funny in reverse and slo speeds. Balance EV and Hybrid driving so the gas doesn't go stale. Keep the battery fan area under the rear seat clear and clean filter regularly. Keep it garaged overnite so no one steals it - a little Hope Diamond love. Hopefully they will work out all the bugs (like the MGR cable) by the time we get ours…we’ve certainly given them the time to get things well sorted.
R4PLess in Halifax.

I got really lucky March of last year. I also live in the Halifax area. I called the metro dealers and Truro, but was told 1.5-2 years. I called Kentville Toyota and was told they had a Black SE coming first week of May, 2021. I put my deposit down and got the call it was there April 30th. Picked it up May 12th, 2021. getting over 3200kms per tank and absolutely love it. Only option I wish I had that it didn't come with is the power liftgate, but I can live with it. I have replaced the horn with Hella which sounds much better. I also bought EKR custom seat covers which look and feel like leather. People can't believe they are only seat covers as they look like factory and make the interior look much more luxurious. Good luck to everyone else.

What will we do when our cars do eventually come in? I wonder how much longer Toyota will kerp building the ‘22s before shifting to ‘23s…I also am #1 on my dealers wait list but as far as I know, my car may not even be in the parts bin yet. At this point I will accept almost any colour or package, Haven’t given it a lot of thought lately, busy enjoying my MX5 summer driver. Were having a pretty great crusin season in NS so far, though I still hope to get R4P prior to having to buy (if available) winter tires😬. Interesting times.

Yeah it’s been a great summer so far here in NS.
I think you‘ll probably get a 2023 model now, I would think the changeover would be coming very soon. I hear the 2023’s have some upgrades so your probably better off waiting a bit longer anyway.
I have no idea where I am on the dealers list but you are in good shape at #1 and probably will get yours soon. Good luck and have have fun in that MX5 😊

I have declined an XSE in may 22 because the dealership was forcing me to buy over $8000 of extras that i didn’t want. Plus, i had to trade in my current RAV4. I was a long time client but treated me like i was a new client. How to make a bad long term decision over on single transaction.
i’m currently 10th on another dealership. They have received less than 10 primes this year. At this point, I’m hoping for a 2023 model.

So checked with the dealer today, no word on my car yet, but he did say that he had heard that Toyota Japan was increasing production of the ‘22 R4P…but no confirmation. Fingers crossed. In a month I will discuss the possibility of flipping my order to a ‘23, i have a ‘mindset’ against buying a car when the new models are only a couple of months out…but that would likely just put me in the same situation, 12 mos later…🫤

So spoke to dealer rep this week. Still no word on when the R4P SE that I ordered in March of ‘21 will be in. Though I understand that Toyota will continue producing the ‘22s until Nov. Not sure how I feel about getting a ‘22 in Q1 ‘23…Now I understand the ‘23 SE will have the better infotainment system we hear about, but also the Moon Roof and Power Lift Gate - 2 things that I wouldn’t pay extra for, but will assuredly take the price up. My guess, looking at a couple thousand more, easy. Tired of smug dealer lines, starting my look elsewhere, in earnest.
The song remains the same…

That’s great news…congratulations !
It’s good to hear the 2023’s are starting to roll.
I’m really interested in how much of a price increase there will be. If it’s too much I might check out the new 2023 Outlander PHEV. I put my name on the list a while back and I’m 4th in line for one but much prefer the R4P if it doesn’t increase too much.
