I tried this option, it was pretty terrible. Didn't fit at all, it was bent like a "smile". Are there any quality/OEM style options?
I bought the Volt shop one and it's a perfect fit--but I installed on the outside and unless you are looking for it you'd never see it. I'm waiting for the upper section to be done by Volt before deciding if I will go there too it seems so unlikely of a problem but still some possibility.

Hi Guyver,
When you zip tied the lower grill condenser area was it necessary to remove anything for access?
Please tell us about your upper grill install and the product you used. Did you remove the hood latch?
Thanks..

Install was not difficult but it took time.
1. Used smaller zip ties and used a loop puller I made to pull the zip ties though.
2. Use ramps to lift the front end up. Easier to work while sitting on the ground.
3. To install inside I removed the front under panel. My hands are not small so it was a tight fit inside.
4. Took about an hour.

Will do upper grill as soon as I have time.

I installed a VoltScreen and posted a picture on the forum. Mr. Stephen Ohara saw it and said it didn’t fit right so he immediately shipped me out another one which fit perfectly. You should express your concerns to him and he will take care of it. Excellent customer service.

I dont want to bother the man. He packaged it, and it was obvious it was smile shaped, so why would he care, now? I also had to superglue the ends of the protectant to secure them better. I would prefer a more OEM quality solution. What are my other options?

I tried to install it on the outside, but it wont even fit fully/covering all, in the opening. Its bent like a bannana/smile.

Perhaps he sent either the wrong one, or one that was mis-manufactured. It was a perfect fit here. Since it arrives coiled one has to gently straighten out the curve before attempting to install it.

I got the screen from the VoltShop. I was happy with the purchase, but the rubber outliner was kinda out of shape and falling apart. It makes the gaps significantly noticeable. (Then the glue was not strong enough or lasted long enough. I reached out to the shop, and he was willing to send me a replacement when I send mine back. Good service!). I decided to keep it, remove the rubber outliner, and re-installed it on the outside with 3 zip ties. It looks much better.

Here is another one that I got from Amazon. It fits better with some clips on and double sided tapes. It looks nicer, but harder to keep clean or remove/change from vehicle to vehicle.

This screen only covers the small part of the vulnerable grille. Is the idea that the short lower area is closer to the road so will be more vulnerable? The upper section has so much more surface area to think about protecting....
I wonder about the upper grill also. Installed my plastic gutter guard last night. Folded the mesh and fed it through lower condenser grill. Buy bending the tab on the end of the zip tie you can feed the tie through the mesh and pull it through with a needle nose pliers. Looks great but I do have concerns about the ability of the plastic mesh to withstand a rock. If any reports of a rock penetrating the mesh surface I will like go to the external metal mesh. Would like to do the upper grill area but have not heard openly reports of damage in that area.

Hi JWG223,

I'm the RAV4Screen guy. I'm sorry that I'm only just catching up to your post, but I do want you to know that I am here and I do care. We ship the screens rolled up to better protect them from the perils of traveling in the custody of the USPS. We used to ship them flat, but lots a lot of them to mishandling. Yes, they take on a curve, but that is easily worked out by bending them backward a bit to straighten them up. And they don't have to be flat when installed, start with the curve bowing out from the grill at the center and the tips in at the grill. As you fasten the plastic ties, the screen will be pulled inward to to the grill and held flat against the grill. As far as the fit and edge trim goes, please send me a picture. I would love to see what you are seeing, and I'll be happy to replace it if you aren't happy with it. I value your feedback to help keep us on track!

Steve are you working on anything for the upper section?
Working on it! Not any more!!! I finally finished that piece off a week or so ago, and I have them available and ready to go out immediately. It is an INTERNAL installation, but here is a picture of one on the outside of the grill to show the full coverage of the open area and the fit. This is on the same page of my website, at the bottom of the page. Installation is still with plastic ties. Getting it in there is actually pretty easy. Here are links to a couple of videos that shows how to get in there. I think at lease one of these videos has been posted on this forum previously.

Send me an email and we can get you fixed up.

Here is what the RAV4 looks like with the front removed, in case you find it useful. I need to pull off again to install mesh behind it along with some rare earth magnets for a removable license plate.

Is it just clips to remove the front top part of the bumper facia, or are there bolts too? TIA

I checked my new 2021 R4P and saw a few hits to my condenser. I installed the Volt Sceen on my 2017 Volt. It saved my Volt by taking a big rock hit preventing damage and saving me big repair costs.

Now I'm installing the Rav4Sceen Sunday.

Here is the link if you are interested.

Owners of 2019 Toyota RAV4s have reported punctures of their AC condensers or radiators. These are located right behind the grill in any car. Due to the open design of the grill, allowing rocks to pass through and strike the condenser or radiator at speed. Repairing this problem isn't that hard, but like anything these days, it isn't cheap either. One owner reported a $700 repair bill. And don't even ask about a warranty! Road hazard damage is specifically excluded from new car warranties.
$1200 radiator for dealer replacement!
