Rear view mirror above dash

REAR VIEW MIRROR ISSUE:
I popped off a mirror from a junk yard car today and thought it would pop right on in my car and it didn't. Anyone familiar with rear view mirror replacement? Nearly everything on this car is popped on/off so I hope I didn't break it.

The mirror stalk on my 99 model is attached to the roof by 2 screws. Gently pry the plastic cover off the top of the stalk.
I have not tried just popping the mirror off, but that does not sound like a good plan.
