FWIW -- my salvage yard ebay Gentex 455 -- GNTX-455 -- which supposedly came out of a 2006 Camry -- cost me $45 (shpng included) for an A Grade mirror with connector and pigtail. It looked brand new. The compass display matched the blue display used by the Rav4. Some mirrors have an orange and other have a red display -- most sellers list the display color and have pictures showing the display

...... and if you have access to a salvage yard it might be worth a triip and dealing direct.

$13.71 w/shipping -- it's gonna be tough to beat that price on a GENMM5 Gentex Extension Mount --- "normal" price is around $30 -- there are also some great ebay mirror deals usually btwn $40 - $70

Excellent find. I'm thinking of splurging and getting the ADVGENFLCHLN after the new year that was used earlier in this thread. The user mentioned he didn't need an extension for this model, but I'd rather play it safe in case I do need it. I managed to find it on sale for 200$, which is steep, but quite a nice mirror.

I also managed to find those t-tap connectors you suggested on Amazon for a decent price. Reviews on the splice connectors are varied, but I hope they work.

@RufusLeakin

Thanks for this tutorial. I have a 2020 XLE. I followed it exactly, but when I use my DMM on the pin 2 (the one you labelled as 12V switched), I still get 0V when ACC/car is turned on. However pin 1 beside it seems to always have constant 12V. I probed every other pin both with the car on and off, and only found that pin 18 (2 pins beside the GND) would toggle between 0V when the car was unlocked, and 12V when the car was locked.

Any idea if it's a bad idea to hook up to the constant 12V (would this drain the battery)? I couldn't find anything else that was 12V switched with just the car on/off.

Any advice?

The Homelink function of the Gentex rear view mirror takes a minuscule amount of power. My Gentex mirror has never caused a battery drain.

See this video for installation instructions (sorry if this is a repeat, but I'm not about to search through 65 posts to see): 2019+ Toyota Rav4 Homelink / Auto Dimming Mirror Installation - YouTube

Bob's mirrors is a good source of info and wiring harnesses for the Gentex mirrors.

So just an update. I ended up using pin 18 as my toggle. I noticed it would be 12V when car was locked (which means on when you're inside driving and doors locked). But it would also turn itself off after some time after I get out and just lock the door (compass would be on, but it's off when I return to the car later). I've used this for a week and so far it appears fine. Attaching picture for reference.

I have a 2020 XLE if this helps anyone else.

Just purchased a 2020 RAV4 XLE AWD Premium which has a bunch of factory add-ons. However I'm slightly annoyed that it has a basic rear-view mirror. I mean at the very least they could've but in an auto dimming one.

So question to you RAV4 folks. Does Toyota sell an auto-dimming mirror or even the digital rear-view mirror for installation? I tried searching on Toyota Parts website but can't find anything other than a Homelink mirror, but that says nothing about being auto-dimming.
Thanks for your informative post, I just purchased a 2024 RAV4 Prime SE and was also disappointed to see the 1960s mirror. Found a Gentex H505SSG101 WZLHL4 with Homelink, autodim and compass on eBay for $57 that fits 2014-2016 Subaru Foresters. It uses a 12 pin Gentex connector I got from Bob's as many have suggested, It is long enough to not need the extension to put the cover back on. I do have a moon roof so will follow the suggestions for tapping that connector.

OK, update, it was fine for me as it would tilt to the left far enough for a 6' tall person but not for my wife who is shorter, ended up ordering the extension.
