Torklift hitch and Kuat bike rack installed, added some utility

Just picked up my RAV4 last week, I inquired at the dealer about a hitch but I wasn’t impressed with the price quote. I decided to order a Torklift hitch. Install was very straight forward, I did have to remove the factory recovery hook before install and I did not see that step in the instructions (It’s 2 bolts, no biggie). Otherwise it’s 4 bolts for the hitch, seriously that simple.
The hitch is very sturdy and fits very well.
Next I went with the Kuat NV Base 2.0 bike rack. It’s not cheap but after getting it and trying all the features honestly it’s worth what I paid and more. The ability to open the lift gate with my bike on, fold it when not in use and have an integrated lock for the bikes is great.

That looks great. I have been having trouble deciding between the OEM hitch and the Eco hitch. I have a coupon for 50% off the OEM hitch. Would this change your decision? The OEM looks like a PITA to install and I won't be towing. It's just for my Kuat Sherpa 2.0 rack. When you got the quote from the dealer did it include installation and if so what was their total price?

I really didn’t pay attention, I researched vehicles for months and made up my mind on the RAV4 and spent weeks researching it and accessories. I had already looked at the Torklift and was pretty much leaning that way. That said they said $4xx for the hitch and that wasn’t installed, so I was out as soon as they began, lol.

The OEM hitch is less than the Torklift before shipping @ $250, with shipping it's still less than the Torklift which adds tax for me for a total of $330, OEM was $291 shipped.

Nice YT Jeffsy !! I have the 2018 YT Jeffsy Race Carbon Pro model. I just picked up a 2020 Rav4 Limited and looking for hitches. Just watched a video on the installation of the stock Toyota hitch. But after seeing this, I might have to consider getting an after market hitch like yours. I'll look into the brand you purchased. Thanks for the information.

I installed my Ecohitch today. I used a floor jack to lift the hitch into place so it can be installed by one person. The rubber muffler bushings were kind of difficult to get off even with wd40. I finally figured out that using a rocking motion did the job. And the two bolts on the passenger side were a bitch because it's a tight space. The passenger side was a breeze. Overall I'm pleased and I think I made the right choice versus the OEM. I didn't want to install the OEM myself because it's a 3 hour job. And I don't trust my dealer to do a clean install either for $750 or whatever the going rate is.

Just another bike pic for us bike nerds, lol.
Hitch is awesome, I have to traverse some decent dips/grade changes to get to a few spots I ride and I wouldn’t fair well with anything lower.
The bike tray nearest the back of the vehicle looks pretty tight on space in your picture. Is there any clearance problem using this tray without a hitch extender?

Nah, it’s set up to hold a big bike it just looks tight. My bikes also have 800mm bars (which is considered wide) and fit fine. See the pic above with my other bike from the side, it may look tight but it’s spaced properly. you can even open the rear hatch with 2 big bikes on as long as you let the rack roll forward as designed. It’s well designed and thought out.

Hey Rye if you're still there...

We just bought a Rav4 Prime XSE w/ Premium Package so has the kick sensor bracket directly behind the lowest part of the bumper facade. As you have an XSE model, did you have to grapple w/ the kick sensor, or no? Im guessing you didn't cut into the bumper facade, did you? Also, I wonder what the distance from the bottom of the EcoHitch 2" receiver is to ground if you can measure?

Thanks!

I do not have the kick sensor. I did trim a little off the lower plastic around the hitch, really not a big deal at all. Painters tape and a dremel Tool.

The lowest part of the hitch is about 10-1/2” off the ground, the exhaust is lower than the hitch so if your going to smack the hitch depending on terrain or break over angle you’ll probably loose your exhaust first.
