Hi all,

I just hit 5000 miles on my 2021 RAV4 and wondering what is the limit I can drive before going to the dealer? Next week my dealer have fully scheduled for service appointment and I dont know whether I should commute with my RAV without void warranty.

Is there any limit in miles? I am located in the US.

Thank you.

You're not gonna void the warranty. 3 year or 36,000 miles bumper to bumper covers everything except for wear and tear items. 5 year or 60,000 covers engine, trans and lubricated parts. As far as 2 year scheduled maintenance goes, it's every 6,000 miles or 24 months. After that, you have to pay out of pocket for service. Basically, if you drive a lot, then you'll run out of warranty faster.

Thank you for the reply. I am not sure, but I think I read something on this forum for a milage limit to keep the free maintenance services by Toyota care as well as not to void the warranty. I think it should be a requirement to keep regular maintenance of the vehicle in order not to void the warranty. Because if the driver decides not to change oil ever and the engine malfunction, then I don't think Toyota will cover the expenses. What do you think?

You'll still keep the warranty as long as the maintenance is done. Again, as long as you get it done as required, you'll be fine. No need to stress. Just get it done every 6,000 miles. That's twice a year or every 6 months. After your 4th service, you'll be paying out of pocket.

Maintenance is months or mileage based, whichever occurs first. Could they deny a true warranty claim if you exceeded a maintenance by a few days or few 100s of miles? Yes, but unlikely, esp if the overage is very small, and that would be reasonable.

They are looking for negligence/poor maintenance. Exceed duration by days/few weeks, OR a few hundred miles, won't be the cause of a warranty repair.

You can always get maintenance done EARLY: 5mo&25days/5,750miles.

The only thing they do at 5,000 miles is a tire rotation and a small inspection to make sure everything is ok with the car.

If you're really worried about making sure your tires get rotated on time you could even go to a place like Jiffylube and have them rotate your tires for you for $20, but I don't think there would be much point to it. I would just make an appointment now with Toyota, put on the few hundred miles, and then go to your appointment.

The 10,000 mile service is the one that's more important because of the oil change.

On my 2018 RAV I did not drive much and sent the car for maintenance based the date/month and never paid attention for the exact date. No issue with the dealer.

This is first time i drive 5000 miles in three months, and will add a ~200 miles before I go to the dealer. For next maintenance service will make sure to go before I reach 10000 miles.
