Hi everyone,

I have owned a 2008 RAV4 for about a year now. Recently, the CEL came on and I cleared it using the power off (battery disconnection) method.

However, it came on again. And on one occasion, the CEL flashed and the car shook briefly. This time I did some troubleshooting; I used the jumper wire method (linking terminals 4 and 13 of the car's OBD II connector).

I was able to get the following two codes (counting number of flashes of the CEL): 93 and 29. From my search on the Net, I found out what the first code means: Irregular and/multiple knocking detected. I still can't find the meaning of the second code; i.e., 29. Maybe I read wrongly?

Can anyone out there help with the interpretation of the code number 29 using the jumper wire method?

I am based in Nigeria.

Thanks in advance.

I scoured through the service manual and could not find a code 29 anywhere. To be clear, this 29 was flashing on the check engine light, correct???

Yes the code 29 was flashing on the CEL.

After further checks, I found the ground cable connected to the engine housing hanging loose, not connected to the chassis as it should. I guess it must have been taken off during my last visit to the mechanic.

It's reconnected now and I have reset the CEL. Right now I'm on the look out to see if the light comes up again.
