I am new to v6 engines and currently have i4 RAV4. I took v6 for a test drive and noticed the following: 5-10 seconds after starting cold engine I started feeling cyclical/rhytmical vibration that comes and goes every couple of seconds. Its barely noticeable and you can't even feel it with stereo on. It continues until rpm drops below 1k or transmission put into gear. Everything else is silky smooth after that. The car had 10 miles on odometer so it's brand new. Any ideas what it might be? Is it normal? Thank you.

I just bought a 2011 V6 Rav4 2 months ago. I noticed the very minor vibrations when I first got the car. Now I have grown accustom them and don't even notice. Although this is my first Rav4, I think it is normal. I was reading in another post that some of the older V6 Rav4s with automatic transmission had a service bulletin for what you might be describing. From what I saw it involved different motor/transmission bushings to dampen the unwanted frequencies. If you have a 2010 or 2011, there should be nothing to worry about.

Do you have the same type of vibration that comes and goes every couple of seconds until rpm drops below 1000? The one I test drove is brand new so I am not sure why this problem has not been fixed in new vehicles.

What you can do is try another V6 at the dealership and see if it has the same vibration. I feel some vibration on mine after cold soak but it smooths out after it warms up. Mind you mine has 100K and I got it used so can't tell what it was like new :(. I suspect it is normal but perhaps some new owners will also chime in...

Anyone? Any comments? I was gonna buy this car today but will have to wait until I get some responses as I dont want to end up with a "lemon". Of course dealer says its normal.
After almost 20,000 miles on my V6, I've never noticed. If it is there, it must be very slight for me not to feel it. I wonder if it could be the A/C compressor since you said it's somewhat rhythmic.

I noticed some vibration on steering wheel when waiting on red lights with engine idling while in drive. It was not before and only showed up near 40,000 miles. Seams like it went away with techron fuel treatment.

I'm sure it's different from what the OP felt. Maybe he/she should test another V6?
