Check engine light turned on yesterday. The alert on my Toyota app sourced a malfunction to the electronic unit (I know, not helpful). Took it in to my local Toyota dealership and the service writer tells me it’s the water pump. My baby’s gonna be in the shop the next few days and I’m in a Sienna XLE. Can’t complain with things. Was really hoping I wouldn’t run into things yet with only 5K miles. Oh well!

That sucks. I have not heard of 1 failing. Please report back with part number etc.

Let us know how you like the Sienna. My brother has a 2022 XSE. He loves it. Him and i went on a snowmobile trip and hauled the trailer with it. Nice ride.

I'm shocked that it would start to fail at a little over 5,000 miles. My guess is like the swollen rotor causing an issue which was throwing the P-code. When it comes to any dealership/mechanics, I'm always weary about the information they present me so I am asking a million questions to understand what is going on but I digress. I am just glad it's covered under warranty. The Sienna is running great. It's the XLE (AWD) so it comes with the bells and whistles. I only get to enjoy it for possibly another day or so. The kids want to use it for its reclining seat action to better enjoy the DVD capabilities.

Hmm... Did you see any evidence of coolant stains under the hood or in the area surrounding the water pump? The car has 5000 original miles? If so the cost will be covered by Toyota, but I’ve had Toyota service departments call for repairs that aren’t needed. With repairs on MY dime I usually get another opinion.

Update: water pump was replaced for a new one. They couldn’t say what the issue was. Just swapped it out. Makes me suspicious about them not knowing what aspect of it was faulty. Was supposed to get my Rav back yesterday but apparently it was done Tuesday but never got the call. The service writer told me he called and left a voicemail - no voicemail was left. No apology or nothing. Oh well, I’m thankful the next closest Toyota shop is only 30 minutes away. Here’s to hoping I don’t have to go back for something else!

**Update: The code was P26CA14
Here we go.

Some 2022-2024 MY vehicles equipped with the A25A engine may exhibit a leak from the engine water pump, and/or MIL On condition accompanied by DTC(s):
  • P26CA14 Engine Coolant Pump Circuit Short to Ground or Open
  • P26CA31 Engine Coolant Pump No Signal

2024 models? They haven't even started making them and they know they have a problem? Why don't they fix the problem before they start making them?

PC26CB usually means the electric water pump has failed. The coolant bypass valve is a different code. Keep a close eye on your coolant reservoir--it may drop or go empty. Watch your engine temperature gauge like a hawk...you NEVER want to overheat our engines. There is an outside chance the pump is OK but there is a fault in the ECM programming, but I wouldn't bet on that. It's the water pump that crapped out---how many miles on your RAV? Here's a good video on diagnosing and replacing the pump...it's the same on a 8th gen Camry and 5th gen RAV4. Here's the TSB on that ECM programming fault.

2024 Rav 4 XLE here. regular services completed, last one done before issue at 37,700Km (23,425miles) Engine overheating warning at 43,000km, coolant reservoir completely empty, no sign of leak on parking ground. Water pump leaking, must have been slow. No other symptoms, except the odd fan noise. Refilled coolant reservoir, didnt appear to leak. While servixe to complete replacement, mechanic found hairline cracks in engine. At least it's all covered under warranty.
