What can a 3SGE engine do?

I've heard a lot of member who are interested in installing a 3SGE engine. What can it do and how might it perform? Check this out. BTW, N/A. and it's the same header that the 3SFE engine uses, interesting.

I think that the main advantage with the 3sge swap would be that your base Hp and torque is higher with out any mods vs the 3sfe.

I don't have any numbers to back this up but the G heads (Toyota's performance head) are supposed to flow more (having a higher potential HP/ better VE) vs a F head.

Performance parts are also easier to find for the G's (cams, cam gears, pistons etc.) Vs the almost non existent performance parts for the F's

The 3sge is a good alternative to a 3sgte. More expensive but less work to fit in ( I think that is the second biggest factor)

Hey guys, I'm new to this site, but I do know a little about the 3SGE. I am building an '87 Celica GTS, which has the first gen 3SGE in it. Being a first gen and not second or third, like the one in the video, it's the least powerful of all. My original US spec engine made like 135 HP at the crank, where as later generations made as much as 190 NA. I do have a JDM first gen just waiting to go in my Celi, but it is only about 15-20 HP greater than the original, with the JDM ECU. One advantage to the 3SGE, is that most every internal engine mod you can do to a 3SGTE, will also work on the regular GE engines. Oh and since the 3SFE block is basicly the same as the GE, the head will fit, it's just all the other stuff you'd have to swap to make it all work, do the whole swap, it'd be easier.

The Celica will one day be my next racecar, as I'm building it for NASA road racing in their Performance Touring class, with hopes of producing 190-200 HP with all the allowable NA engine mods I can throw at it. Also, I do drive a '98 Rav4L, that may soon see action as our pace car, with some minor tweeks to handling and performance.

calgaryrav4, do you know if just changing the head from the 3SFE to the 3SGE, is it possible?
It should bolt on no problems, but...

I think that the compression ratio would be to low with the 3sfe pistons (domed) for a NA engine. And possible valve to piston clearance issues??.

I still hoping someone will find

-3sfe head cc's
-piston deck height measurement (measurement of the piston depth @ TDC to the
block)
-compression distance/height (top of piston to the center of the wrist pin) of the later 94+ (22mm pin) factory 3sfe pistons

With out this is all just guessing and speculation.

I think their are three sources for this information: The internet, Haynes Manual and the Toyota Engine manual.
