2019 XLE: I need to get behind the rear section of the roof liner. I can do it if I remove the two side panels shown in the photo. Anyone know how to remove these? Any concern about air bags?

The rear hatch gasket slides off, just like the front/rear doors. then it’s just snapped into the body, like the other pillar plastic parts are. It’s bigger, but attached the same way.
I don’t want to remove the gasket I need to remove the panels are they held in with the snap clips and what about the airbag?

I ran a rear dashcam through the headliner there - I'm trying to remember how I did it, but I don't think I had to remove that panel. I think I just snaked the cable through somehow. I have removed the entire cargo area liner on the lower part when doing the tail as brake mod, all the black stuff. That's held in with a few screws and clips and it's too difficult.

So in my case I need to physically get my hand behind the hood liner. I need to drill a small hole in the center of the roof between the radio shark fin antenna in the area just behind the rear hood liner light. If those two side panels can be snapped off I’ll be able to drop the hood liner down just enough for me to do this easily. I am reluctant to just pull the panels because I don’t know how many or what type of fasteners or where they are that are used to hold the panels in place and I believe there’s also an airbag in the front edge of these panels

Not sure its in there...but he took most of the car apart to apply stuff! LOL

njscan, in the thread Colonel posts above, Sunken at post #20 has a couple of pics for you, at least for the bottom edge of the panel. Also jalps post #81, Spaceballs post #191 and Chris914 #222 has a video with some interesting footage. Unfortunately, none of them show how to remove the actual upper panel. It looks like from the pics getting the bottom panels off first is a necessity.

I bought and installed an aftermarket trailer hitch and wiring kit.
The website had installation instructions which included removing the upper side panels to access the factory wiring for the back lights.
I’m pretty sure that it was Curt Mfg.
Good luck with your project.

Those plugs hide bolts/ screws. If no cosmetic plugs, panel pieces snap into place. Get a good nylon Trim Tool Assortment kit to minimize breakage while removing plastic panels & fasteners.
