I put mine on the roof, drivers side corner next to the windshield.

The reason mine is on the back of the rearview mirror is because I first tested its reception by putting it in the glove box. Mine would not pick up a signal. I realised that my antenna needed a more direct line of sight. Took me a few days to figure out this location; the driver never sees it; it's pretty inconspicuous.

I was concern that the dashboard would block the GPS signal. It seems like this may be the easiest route.
I thought that could be a problem too so I tested it first before putting the entire dash back together. Worked with no issues. There's really nothing between the top of the dash and the top of head unit so you essentially have a clear line of sight. GPS can go through the dash fine. If you had a piece of metal between then it wouldn't work.

What GPS antenna has worked best under dash?

I'm going to put in an after market HU with GPS and I would like to leave antenna under dash as some of you have done. What antenna has worked under dash for you.

Thanks in advance, I'm new to the forum but long time Rav owner.

I had a professional installer install a Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX. They installed the GPS antennae on the underside of the center dash (above/between the air ducts and above the head unit). As others have said, the dash is plastic so the signal goes through it with no problem and the installation is completely hidden.

Same here.
No problems with GPS or XM.
