Have you tried this yet? Did it work?
No, I didn't install the tweeters yet. My dad ended up deciding that he wants to replace the amplifier altogether instead of trying replacing the tweeters. So I just ordered me a used amplifier from ebay and will install that instead. I'll let you know if it will resolve the issue. Thanks

Same here. After we replaced the amp, there were no more issues. Thanks

All,
Thank you for this thread!!
I am having the same issue with my 2007 Rav4. We had this problem with the factory JBL head unit. Replaced it with a Sony unit with Apple Car Play, etc and while the problem is sporadic, it does still happen. Will sometimes reset by turning off the car. I checked all fuses and they're fine. As this is my daughter's car, I don't want sudden loud screeching to start which could startle her. Is there a way to just bypass the AMP still allowing the speakers to work??

Thanks in advance for any help!

I never had to replace my head unit. I still have the factory installed one. Ultimately I replace the amplifier and haven't had a single issue since. I got the amplifier off Ebay for a good price. Since you replace the head unit you might need a different amplifier but someone else here may know better than me. Good Luck!

You can look into this harness to bypass the factory amp. I have the same one in our 2017 sequoia with jbl.
Depending on where the factory amp is located, you will need the 9 wires cable, also call "speed wires".. color match from your sony HU speakers wires to the speed wires, then the other end of the speed wires go into the bypass harness from axxess above. This way the amp is bypassed and your aftermarket radio is powering the stock speakers.

I have had the same problem in my 2008 RAV4 Limited for about the last 8 years. It started sporadically and then eventually happened all the time, so I just stopped listening to the stereo in the car. I would occasionally accidentally trigger the blast of noise by hitting the "phone off hook" button on the steering wheel., which was always an unpleasant shock, especially while driving. I recently found this thread and decided to try replacing the amp, and it has fixed the problem.

I followed the instructions in this YouTube video to remove the rear passenger interior panel. This tool made it easy to pull out the plugs that got stuck when I removed the panels. Once I verified the amp model number (86280-0W400), I purchased a remanufactured one on ebay (figured it was better to get one that had been fixed vs. one that might still fail from the original problem) and installed it.

Thanks for all the help on the thread!

My 71 year old mother just bought a used 2007 Limited last week and this happened to her for the first time on the way to my house tonight. She called me from the side of the freeway panicked and shaking. She drove to my house with all of the speakers blasting white noise at full volume, with the radio off, 15 minutes…she was shaking when she came in.

I test drive it and couldn’t get whatever it was she was talking about to reproduce. But I offered to ride with her on another test drive on her way home and it happened again as she was exiting the freeway to turn around and bring me home….nothing I pressed on the radio did anything to lower the sound…stations would change from AM to FM to FM2, but Disk/Aux did nothing.Turing the radio on and off did nothing. Only turning ignition off stopped the noise. My ears are still ringing.

I have a 2006 Sport with the JBL sound system and have never had any issues with the stereo.
After about 15 min of internet searches, I found a few discussions here about this issue…all having a JBL sound system, all having similar symptoms. This thread is the only one I could find that verified a fix…the amp is the issues.

Now, is there a newer amp, or an aftermarket amp that we can replace it with? Or do we have to find the same model and hope it doesn’t have the same problems?

Our 2008 RAV4 Limited with the JBL stereo just started having this same problem last weekend. I feared it could be rodent damage to the wiring (which could be a pain to trace and repair) but I'm glad I found this thread that seem to point to the amplifier failing. I also get intermittent noise (beeps, static, pops and very loud pops) that seem to travel from speaker to speaker around the car even if the head unit is off. I will be ordering a replacement amplifier (likely one that has already been repaired as it should be better than new) and preparing myself to disassemble the rear quarter of the interior to replace it.
