I have had my new RAV4 for less than 6 months and already the windshield has cracked twice. I have a feeling these windshields are just made cheap or faulty. I had several cars in my life and never had to replace one due to a chip from something hitting it. Perhaps I’m just unlucky or these windshields are made like ?. Has anyone else experienced this as well?

I have owned by Rav4 for about 18 months and have having to replace my windshield for a 2nd time. Luckily, when I changed insurance, my insurance guy suggested I go with a zero deductible for the windshield and thank goodness he did. Both stars developed into fast traveling cracks in no time. I do feel like there's a problem with this design! And guess what, we're paying for it!!
On the 3rd day of driving my new rav my windshield cracked while driving on a surface street. No cars in front of me, no bumps in the road. It was about 10in long extending from the pillar on the left side right in front of my line of site and now it extends all the way to the passenger side after a couple days.

My AAA insurance is renewing and I noticed a couple of coverages that I did not have and one was obviously connected to windshield replacement.
So, I online chatted with a AAA rep and asked them about the following coverages I was "missing" on my plan:
It might be a good idea to research your insurance policy due to the intricacy of the RAV4 windshield/camera arrangement. Not to forget the rain sensor and wiper defrost options which I do not have but just saying.

This is really helpful thank you! I have AAA also but I don’t have windshield coverage at the moment. I’m hoping the dealer can replace the windshield. Regardless, I’m going to go to AAA and get those added for the future.

My 2019 windshield has cracked 3 times with no apparent chip or anything. The cracks have started at the edge of the trim, always on the right side once from bottom and twice from the top. I’m not happy!

Shatter-x is the only thing that worked for me. It has saved my replaced windshield 4 times now.

If you google it you can buy it. It has two applications. The first is a cleaner to remove anything on your glass. The second is a sealer. Follow the directions carefully.
It works great and lasts one year.
I had my windshield replaced by Toyota it was 4 months old. And I applied the Shatter-x to see if it helps.
And it does protect the windshield from everything.
4 seperate times mine got hit with highspeed rocks. Not even a mark.
I will always use it from now on.

I had a 2015 RAV4 and my windshield cracked twice within 12 months…
Shatterx claims to make your windshield harder so that is why I applied it to my R4Prime. I will not be experimenting to test that claim.
I like the rain rolling off windshield for up to a year as well. I had a small dried bird poop get smeared by the wipers in misting rain and then completely wipe clean in 10 minutes of light/moderate rain. I let it sit for days and somehow got the wipers going over the bird poop with no water on it. It looked bad after initial smears but with more rainy wipes it still came off (eventually) in the first rain and that spot looks/feels as good as new

I have a 2019 Toyota RAV4 I bought new! I’ve had to have the windshield replaced now and 8 chips from just normal driving in town or on the interstate..We just bought a Toyota 4 Runner September 2021 and I’ve had to have 9 windshield chips fixed on it already and I have another one right now that needs fixed..So while at the Toyota Dealership today May 6, 2022 getting my usual service..I explained to them all these windshield chips and tells me I’m the only person in all their 1,000’s and 1,000s of customers that has complained..So while sitting here waiting on my vehicle service I’m doing research on forums of Toyota customers windshield issues and I’m learning about their windshield issues and also learning I’m not crazy like they make you feel..I walk back up to the service guy and tell him he needs to do his research before he lies to me again and he’s got a clueless look on his face..I will never purchase a Toyota again!! I’ve had 5 Honda’s never had a issue with windshield problems and I drove more than I do now then on the interstate..
Thats funny that you mention Honda, we were working with them on a windshield issue that they had that caused the front camera to overheat. I don't think the main focus of any car maker is reliability anymore. Its just tech and looks and hope it lasts long enough for the people to trade it in

Had mine break last week after the smallest rock impact at low speeds. I couldn't believe it broke I was literally going 20kmh
My older Toyotas were never this brittle. Toyota is prob lowering its standards to maximize profits

After my 4th windshield on my 2017 Rav4 Premium, my glass repair guy said windshields with more black trim around the edges break easier, and the closer the chip is to the black film, the more chance it will crack. I have had terrible luck with toyota windshields, I think its a Toyota thing. Just look around in parking lots, it seems most cars with windshield cracks are toyotas. Trading our 2017 Rav4 for a 2022 Rav4 LE AWD as soon as we can find one.
Im having same issue 2002 RAV4L
Ive got 3 cracks and 2 chips in my Windshield as well on my RAV4L. This glass has to be cheap or something cause I've never had this happen before with my other vehicles.
